Community Reviews
This Visa virtual eGift card deal is mainly useful for stacking with cashback promos and for flexible online spending. The fee waiver can drop the usual $5.95 checkout charge, and the card has been used for Amazon-linked offers, Discover quarterly bonuses, and minimum spend padding. It can also work for bills and some subscriptions, including T Mobile and ComEd. Limits and acceptance vary by checkout, though, with one discounted card per order and some sites rejecting the card.
The deal can stack with a Discover Q4 bonus category for additional Amazon-related cashback.
The $5.95 purchase fee can be discounted at checkout when it applies.
The card can work for bill payments, including an electricity bill with no issues reported.
The card can be useful for trial subscriptions by providing a single-use or spend-limit style approach.
The $5.95 fee waiver may not apply consistently, and the deal price can appear higher than expected.
Online acceptance can fail on some sites, including a report of repeated rejections and a Starbucks.com purchase failure.
Stacked promo instructions may not work as expected for every checkout attempt.
The offer eligibility is not guaranteed each time, so qualification can require waiting for the promo to return.

I don't know either. I suppose some people think it's anonymous (it isn't really, maybe from your wife but not your government) and buy their online peepshows with 'em.
keep with 1.01 balance for "trial offers" that want to validate a card with $1 on it..

TBH - keeping track of a new virtual card number and balance seems like a lot of effort to me for a $5 statement credit, but to each their own.
I have a couple friends who will sign up for new cards the same time every year because they know they'll have big purchases to fulfill those requirements. Stuff like this can help fill that out while also earning base points/cash back.
Like Discover is offering 5% back on Amazon purchases.
That being said, yes this is penny pincher material.
