This is a true sweet spot deal for action cams.

The Action 5 and Action 6 are incremental-ish upgrades. The Action 4 is what introduced the new sensor size, which stayed the same in the newer models

10-bit, Log footage, 4k60/120 so this packs a punch
You will not get a better action cam at this price that offers this quality. If youre like me and try to get "bang for buck" this is your ticket

If you're a normal user that just wants an action cam, you can make a compelling case to go GoPro instead as they have a better ecosystem for accessories/mounting & some extra bells & whistles for built-in features/app but DJI is quickly catching up on that front

If you're someone who might use an action cam more seriously (grade footage, use it in a workflow) this is the winner by a long shot

i read somewhere that GoPro has a heating problem when recording stationary. Does this have the same problem?

From my research, the overheating issues dont plague the DJI cameras like the GoPros.

For reference, I believe this was $199 around BF, so this is a pretty good deal.
Note: you have to install and activate these cameras via an app. Better believe the app collects a lot of info from your phone (shown in the Apple app store). It is much easier to get the app and activate on iOS. There is no way around this. Do some research before you buy if any of this sounds like it would be a problem for you.

I had a GoPro Hero 8 and 11, both had laughable overheating issues. I tried the 8 returned it and then the 11 a couple years later returned that as well for the same reason, I couldn't film for minutes before they would shut down. I gave the DJI Action 3 a shot and it's filmed in the Hawaii heat with an overheat warning only after filming for two hours mounted to the windshield in the sun. DJI makes a good product, I've taken this one all over the world and it's holding up great, I'm a fan.

I've heard the 5 has better low light performance than the 4. I'm looking for a cam for concerts and nighttime scooter rides. Will this still cut the mustard?

What? I didn't have to do that with the 4, or 5. I just turned it in, set it to English, setup the resolution etc right on the device and went ahead and recorded video. Yeah, if I want to update the firmware I would need the app, but I never installed anything on my phone until just a few days ago when I wanted to stream/control via a phone.

This is getting a bit more into the technical nitty gritty, where I'm not as qualified to speak to - but -

"Real" low light performance largely comes down to sensor size. The bigger the sensor, the more light can get in.. that's just physics
Action 4 and Action 5 have the same sensor size. HOWEVER.. there are real digital/software improvements made for the Action 5. If low light is your biggest concern... Action 4 does well, Action 5 does better. Just a matter of how much of a $ difference is that worth to you.

I just did some searching and apparently the Action 5 has some physical improvements to the sensor that help with low-light as well. So take that with a grain of salt, maybe check out some YT showdowns and see if you need the extra low-range boost.

Huh, interesting. Not sure how that happened, but there are plenty of youtube videos, reddit posts and blog posts around the net complaining about it. DJI claims its "for our protection" locking the device to the owners account, but really, they're just collecting a ton of information from the app installs.
FWIW, I have a brand new Action 4 that I picked up during BF for $199 and first thing upon boot up, it asked me to scan a QR code and activate the device in the app. They give you something like 3-5 bootups then itll lock you out.
Here's a nice video demonstrating the scam:

One thing to note is the action 4 is the last to use the h264 codec. The 5 and 6 use the h265 codec which may, may pose some processing challenges.
