This Acer Aspire 3 looks like a strong budget laptop for schoolwork, spreadsheets, QuickBooks, light development, and older or non AAA games. The Ryzen 5 7520U, 16GB of memory, and 1TB SSD make it feel snappy for everyday use, and USB C charging works despite the barrel power brick. The main drawbacks are a dim screen, no backlit keyboard, and weak Radeon 610M graphics, with some reports that the listed Full HD panel is actually 1536 by 864. It is a practical low cost machine if you can live with the display and graphics limits.

  • Desk-based multitaskers using external monitors, because it can charge over USB-C and work through a dock.

    infin8007pug_sterRrock27

  • Students and office workers needing a cheap everyday laptop, because it handles school work, spreadsheets, QuickBooks, and other light productivity smoothly.

    burticusbigbirdoncrack

  • Casual gamers playing older or non-AAA titles, because the Ryzen 5 and integrated graphics can handle lower settings for lighter games.

    burticusbigbirdoncrack

  • Indoor workers who can tolerate a dim display, because the screen is usable indoors even though it is not very bright.

    LEOMHK1.0Rrock27

  • People who need a bright, accurate 1080p screen, because the display can be dim and may measure below full HD.

    LEOMHK1.0Rrock27

  • Travelers who want a lightweight charger setup, because it uses a barrel power brick and adds bulk.

    burticusLEOMHK1.0

  • Gamers expecting modern 3D performance, because the integrated Radeon 610M severely limits graphics power.

    bigbirdoncrack

  • Users who want a backlit keyboard for low-light typing, because the keyboard is not backlit.

Agree--seems like just the SSD and memory are worth the price...

Does anyone know if this will run Linux without hiccups? Anyone own one who could comment?

I got a couple of refurbs directly from Acer in the past and they have been good. This is a decent laptop for $200.

Ryzen 5 7520 4c/8t with integrated R610M graphics. Not a gaming powerhouse by any means, but should be able to older stuff or kids games on lower settings. 16gb ram and a 1tb SSD is good. I don't love it has a barrel plug power brick, I'm a HUGE fan of USB-C. And no touchscreen. 4lbs + brick.

But these are nitpicks for $200, I don't think it's going to get better than this anywhere near this price. And even free shipping.

edit - my bad, it does say touchscreen in the fine print

For the price, given current market issues, it's not bad for a general purpose, light gaming (nonAAA titles).

Zen2 architecture from Sept 2022, with Radeon 610M severely limiting graphics power.

I ended up buying it. Although it uses a barrel charger, you can charge it via USBC. At least that's what I saw in the review

It states that it has charging over USB-C. And DisplayPort as well.
