Im still daily driving an MK1 and love it, its 6 years old and still going strong for sports and occasional rec diving.
That said, this MK2 hasn't aged well. Garmin has the new Descent G2 which is the same price with all the features plus the upgraded AMOLED screen which is insanely bright and great for outdoor use. The Descent MK3 is starting around $900, which I don't think is really worth the upgrade unless you're a tech diver or want the cellular connectivity.

Fenix 8 has some diving features but I'm not sure how does it compare to MK3, any preference between the 2?

They are for quite different purposes. Fenix 8 is not a dive computer and does not have any air integration options. No under water communications options either (see the Mk3). If you (like me) just want to track your recreational dives with a dive master doing the work, then Fenix (or Apple Watch Ultra) will be adequate and have a much nicer screen than the MK2. If you need a dive computer, the other two can not compare

Agree, I think for the casual rec diver the Fenix is the best option. 40m rating, the basic dive programs and it looks great for daily wear versus the bulkier Descent series. The Descent is a proper dive computer but most of us aren't rated for technical diving anyways so probably don't need the extra hardware.
