Milwaukee's 25 foot compact magnetic tape measure 2 pack stands out for its compact body, magnetic tip, double sided printing, and strong tape that stays rigid farther out than expected. The wire clip is easy to pocket, and the back side markings help with vertical measurements. The deal can drop lower with Buy More Save More or by mixing and matching, and the current price is still in stock. The main knocks are a strong smell on arrival and that some prefer Stanley FatMax or DeWalt for heavier duty use. A solid fit for typical home projects and handy everyday measuring.

  • Homeowners doing typical projects, because the compact body, magnetic tip, and double-sided markings make quick measuring easier.

  • DIYers measuring metal surfaces, because the magnetic tip helps hold the tape on trailers and other steel parts.

  • Tradespeople who need a tape that extends unsupported, because the blade stays stiff enough to reach about 12 feet or more before bending.

  • Buyers who want a tape with a magnetic hook and double-sided printing, because those features are better matched by other 25-foot options.

  • Serious contractors who want a heavier-duty tape, because the Stanley FatMax is described as the better choice for serious work.

  • Shoppers sensitive to strong odors, because the tape can arrive with a bad smell from the lubricant or casing.

My preference is the DEWALT 25 ft. Magnetic Tape Measure (2-Pack) that has the magnetic hook and double sided printing. Currently $19.88 - 10% if you're a Mil/Vet.

Different uses: FatMax doesn't have the print on both sides & isn't a magnetic tip.
I'd say those are simply features vs a whole different use case. Can't think of much use for a magnetic tip either but maybe there's certain use cases as you're saying. There's a reason that almost anyone in the trades is using a fatmax though. That said these are probably a good deal for typical homeowner projects.

Fat max is 2 for $25. So probably worth the extra $2.50 per tape to go with the fat max.
Oh nice thanks for the heads up going to grab a couple as my current ones are beat to hell.https://www.homedepot.com/p/Stanl.../205584109

I've been using these for about the last month and have been very happy. I've always bought Stanley tapes but after the last one crapped out prematurely I decided to change things up.

Highlights for me:
1) Magnetic tip. Never saw a use before but was working on a utility trailer (metal) and the magnetic tip came in handy.
2) The wire clip. They look cheap but I've come to prefer them - both this tape and my Milwaukee utility knife use them. They don't seem to snag, are durable, and are easy to clip in/on a pocket.

IMO the Stanley Fatmax is the way to go for serious work but I have this as well and it's probably fine for most people's uses or to just have around. Good deal at $10 each.
Yeah I own a fatmax and it's like ... How can a tape measure be good? Reliable? I don't even know. I love that thing

Working for my family's general contracting company, I've used a lot of tape measures...and replaced a lot of them. Like some other reviewers one of my more recent favorites had been the 25' Stanley FatMax. Unfortunately, my most current one "walked away" on a job site this week so I had to look for a replacement and figured it couldn't hurt to take advantage of a "2 fer" deal.

Currently there are "2 fer" deals for several 25' tape measures at HD: Stanley FatMax (2 for $24.88), DeWalt (2 for $19.88), and Milwaulkee (2 for $19.97). All three have strong tapes that can extend unsupported up to 12' or longer. The Stanley is the same basic measuring tape that I'd previously had for several years. It's solidly built with a 1-1/8" wide tape that's only printed on the top side. In contrast, the DeWalt and Milwaulkee tapes are 1" wide, have open access under the body that makes it easy to temporarily hold the tape length without having to lock it down with the front lever and they also have a magnetic tip. The DeWalt's magnetic tip is removeable which in my world means it would disappear sooner or later. Additionally both the DeWalt and Milwaulkee tapes are printed on both sides which could come in handy in some situations.

Bottom line: I opted for the Milwaulkee deal.

The Fatmax sale bundle is usually for the cheaper imported version, not be confused with the more expensive USA made tapes that earned Fatmax their excellent reputation.

The ones I purchased and received from the current 2 for $25 HD sale say made in USA on them.

If you search the Milwaukee Reddit you'll see that it's one is the most complained about tools. You should return and get the fatmax if it's still an option.
