This is the metaphorical equivalent of a realistic milsim for medieval RPG.

You will probably die ruthlessly at the hands of two bandits while you flail your sword around, wondering why you aren't wearing any armor, because you forgot to put your clothes on after bathing in the river, because you smelled horrible and the NPC you needed to talk to wouldn't talk with you until you cleaned up.

10/10. PS - put on padding before chain mail

This and the first game are pretty good. Immersive.
The game has been on sale all over the place, but I think I want it from GOG instead of these other places.

Are the combat mechanics better in this new one? I played the first one and loved the history, immersion, and story, but combat was harder than it should be, not because the enemies are hard (they are) but because the controls (PC) were weirdly difficult. That's what I remember anyway. My graphics weren't up to snuff, so I never finished back then. Amazing story and historical accuracy though.

Incredible game, but I'm still on the first one after a couple of years playing. I'll add it to my library.

Also, you can play this on Amazon Luna if you connect your GOG account. That's a pretty big selling point right there.

I just started to replay the first one (started over because I got like a quarter of the way through years ago and forgot where I left off). This time I am playing with my PC hooked up to my TV with a controller, and wow, the combat is so much more intuitive with the right stick to switch where you are going to hit. With the mouse and keyboard, I was always trying to flick the mouse one or the other to switch attack directions and never seemed to get the hang of it.

How hard is this? I've been interested but with how little I have to play these days I get frustrated with really difficult games where I spend 80% of the 1 hour I have to play that day dying or trying to figure out where to go next

CAUTION: be careful with this one, as people have mentioned it's hard to get through it, and for many people they have limited time to devote to it. It's very telling that the game didn't win game of the year OR best role playing game. So if your gaming time is precious I'd say skip it.

I play all games on "story" mode, so I am with you. This game is tense and you die, but I wouldn't say it's "hard". So far the hardest part is if you are going from one town to another and run into multiple bandits. I am early in but having a lot of fun.
