Buyer beware. They haven't shipped my order from weeks ago yet. I know the date says as much, but it's a little strange especially with the incoming potential ban.

I think this is important to repeat.

You don't need the "transceiver" to fly the Neo 2 using your phone but if one day you want to use one of the remotes and the googles, you need to buy that those equipments PLUS you will need one small piece called a "transceiver" that attaches to the back of the Neo 2 and is sold separately if you buy this package (other more expensive Neo2 packages include the transceiver inside the box).

The transceiver is not easy to find and when you do manage to find an authentic one (not a fake), they're pretty expensive avg $75.

DJI Neo 2 is a compact, highly portable drone that shines for quick takeoffs, gesture control, and phone flying, with auto shot modes and support for goggles and FPV controllers. The drone can fly without a remote or phone for basic actions, while the phone extends setup and manual control. Range is limited on phone control, and real world flight time is short, around 7 to 10 minutes per battery. This drone only package does not include the transceiver needed for goggles or remote use, and Amazon shipping has been inconsistent for some orders.

  • The Neo 2 can fly using gestures and its own small display and buttons without needing a phone or controller.

    TFreakburgunlimitedlvl

  • Phone control supports auto-shot style operation and gesture control, which enables independent capture without constant manual piloting.

    wiseghostTFreakburg

  • Amazon orders can arrive within the promised delivery window and some deliveries have met expected timing.

    dealstormmiles928

  • The drone can be controlled with a phone for manual operation while a controller can extend distance beyond phone-only limits.

    unlimitedlvlkingdenniz518

  • Amazon drone shipments can be inconsistent, with orders placed weeks earlier reportedly still not shipping.

    dirtbag88kensteelesaintirish

  • Battery life can be short in real use, with reports around seven to ten minutes per battery.

    pendejo1Blahgod

  • Using goggles and an FPV setup can require a separate transceiver that is hard to find and may cost around $75.

    kensteelekenyee

  • The package may not include an FPV receiver, which can reduce the expected bundle value for buyers.

It doesn't even come with that FPV receiver. SMH. $159 neo is better.
Neo 2 is a much better drone than neo 1. You can get a version with the remote included (for more money of course)

You can fly with your phone, but not too far, up to 500 meters (officially, IRL maybe 200-300m in the open). Neo 2 can also fly independently in auto shot modes and be controlled by gestures.

New to all of this - Is there any chance these get bricked or are otherwise unable to fly if a ban goes into effect?

That's the problem with these drones from Amazon, you never know for sure when they will ship. Not only the ones from the sellers but also the ones shipped from Amazon. Hit or miss. I don't think the shipments are trying to hit the Dec 23 because it's likely they can still ship after that date. I have an order placed on Dec 6 that tells me I should expect it on Feb 1.

Still .. v2 Neo is much better than v1. Hope we get v3...

The fly more combo including the remote 2x batteries and transceiver is also on sale at $429. It is a better deal.

Fpv combo is also on sale at $599. But if this your first Drone, then you need practice using controller before fly with FPV.

In/out of stock frequently -- so refresh your page.

I have one. You can fly without any phone or controller, as it supports gestures, has a small display, and has buttons. You can also fly with a phone.

It also supports goggles and FPV controller (v3)
