The TCL QM5K comes across as a bright, colorful budget Mini LED TV that is especially strong for bedrooms and everyday streaming. Picture quality is described as a solid baseline with good contrast, and Google TV feels very snappy. It also supports Dolby Vision and HDR10+, and the built in sound is surprisingly good. The main caveat is the 50 inch model does not do 144Hz at 1080p or 1440p, so high refresh gaming is limited, and very picky gamers may want to look higher. A strong value pick if you want a lively TV without paying flagship prices.

Common Questions (4)

  • Yes. It is described as super bright, with great colors and contrast, and it works well in a darker room. That makes it a strong fit for bedroom use at this price.

  • It supports VRR up to 4K/60, but the 50-inch model does not support 144Hz at 1080p or 1440p. That makes it fine for casual gaming, but not ideal if you want high-refresh competitive play.

  • The thread raises the setup/privacy concern, but no comment confirms an offline setup path. Based on the comments here, the safest assumption is that Google TV smart features are part of the normal setup, while HDMI devices and OTA use are the intended non-smart inputs.

  • No. The 50-inch QM5K does not do 144Hz at 1080p or 1440p, while the other sizes do. If high-refresh gaming matters, the larger sizes are the better pick.

$349 for the 55" is also a nice deal that's been available on-and-off this season.

Just set one up with the Rtings recommended settings and the PQ is very nice, anecdotally. Didn't look at color bars or other test patterns.

Google TV is better than others, and having both DV and HDR10+ is nice when switching across streaming platforms.

Hmmm... the 75" for $650 or spend and extra $100 on the QM6K? Seems like it might be worth splurging a bit more for the higher model.
I got the 75" QM6K over Black Friday for $700 from Costco and have been extremely happy with it. Now, I have never seen a QM5K to compare it to, however.

Agree. This TV is phenomenal for the money.

We have a handful or so of 5 yr old basic edge-lit LG/Samsung TVs. I replaced one of them with the 50" QM5K and was so impressed that I went out and replaced most of the rest of them with this model (a combination of 50" and 55" sizes.) It's super bright (almost too bright), has great colors, great contrast, surprisingly good built-in sound, and VRR up to 4K/60. It's considerably cheaper than what I paid for a basic 4K TV in 2020 money (not even factoring inflation and tariffs) and considerably better. TVs have to be one of the few things dramatically beating inflation.

I have an old 75" TV that I want to replace. I'm considering the 85" QM5K ($800) but waiting to see what happens to the pricing of the 98" QM6K and QM7K (QM5K not sold in this size.)
I would get the QM7K at that size because of better processing. I also own a 75" QM7 and it has been a fantastic tv.

Just got a "55 QM6K from Amazon setup yesterday for $399. I specifically needed 120hz for the PS5 for my son. The image clarity compared to my 65" LG C1 oled tv is excellent! I am definitely impressed! The black are just as black as my oled, and no bleed thru or wierd grayish colors when the picture is pitch black.
I preffered buying it from Costco who had it for the same price and it included a total 5 year warranty , but it sold out very quickly at that price. They have it in stock now at a higher price now. Their model was called QM6K Pro, according to google it has a better screen coating which prevents glare.
