FYI to all. I had Roku for years and did everything I could to block ads without success (even using a pi-hole). I have Google TV now and although out of the box, it's terrible, it's just android so you can do custom launchers (flauncher) with no ads making it soooo much better than roku. I'll never go back. I wish somebody had told me earlier.

Roku Streaming Stick 4K is a compact streamer that stands out for 4K playback, Dolby Vision on the 2021 model, and a built in WiFi extender in the cable. The newer 2025 version is described as having a better processor, while the non Dolby Vision version may fit TVs that do not support that format. The main drawback is Roku's ad heavy interface, with large home screen ads and rotating event banners that can be hard to avoid. The included power cable also raises questions because it appears to handle the long range WiFi receiver.

I also tried everything and the kitchen sink. What finally worked for me is NextDNS. Now there's just an empty frame on my home screen where the ad used to be. No idea of course how long it will last, but so far so good.

What's up with the USB cable? Built in Wi-Fi? Does this mean that is the cable breaks, you won't have Wi-Fi? Or you'll have to spend $20 on an OEM cable?

You connect it to a USB port to power it.

Yeah, but the power cable is described as "power cable with long range Wi-Fi receiver". I'm trying to understand if the cable is the only way it can get Wi-Fi. If so, it won't work on Wi-Fi without an OEM replacement.

If you are looking for a Roku Ultra and have a Roku account, look for "My Offers" under your account name on the web site. I picked one up for $60 with free shipping. Model 4850R with the rechargeable remote (Roku Voice Remote Pro 2nd edition).

I want to play video files from a USB drive on a dumb TV. Will this work?
