Best Buy also has the Tapo 25M (identical to P400M) with Matter support for $16. I bought one a week ago and it's been working well for outdoor lights, controlled by Apple TV.

For an extra $5, you can also get the Tapo P400M which has Matter support if that is important to you and you plan on using it outside of the Gover App. I have 2 EP40s (the product linked here) and 3 P400Ms, all purchased as needed at full price, and integration into Home Assistant is much easier and more reliable with the P400Ms. I don't love the Govee Cloud integration

This Kasa two socket outdoor smart plug stands out as a reliable way to automate outdoor lights and other seasonal gear. It has been used for Christmas lights, Halloween displays, outdoor bulb lights, a pool pump, and even a Christmas tree, with easy integration into Google Home and the Kasa app. Long term use looks solid, including several years of service inside and outside, even on an uncovered side exposed to heavy rain. The main tradeoff is that Matter support is not included, so it lacks the broader cross platform flexibility of newer alternatives. A practical pick for simple outdoor scheduling.

  • The plug can support Matter interoperability for connecting with Apple HomeKit, Google Home, or Home Assistant.

  • The plug can work well for seasonal outdoor lighting automation like summer bulb lights and holiday displays.

    androidf58androidf58NikonShr

  • Home Assistant integration can be easier and more reliable when using the Tapo P400M option instead of relying on Govee Cloud.

    TealMaid7482

  • Outdoor use can handle heavy rain exposure without issues over multiple years for Christmas lights.

    Gvicta

  • Matter support may require choosing the Tapo P400M or Tapo 25M option rather than the linked Kasa model.

    TealMaid7482bigpapii34

  • The plug requires using the Kasa app for control rather than a Matter-only setup.

    Dextar

  • Some integration experiences can be less satisfying when relying on Govee Cloud for smart plug control.

That's a great deal. The tp25 is indeed the same product as the p400m, just the name for BestBuy.

I bought one of these for the outdoor bulb lights I hung up so they can turn on and off automatically in the summer.

Basically an open protocol so you don't have to download a sketchy app and connect it to your WiFi. You can connect it to Apple Homekit, Google Home, or Home Assistant using Matter.

What is the Gover app? I have three of these Kasa ones and it uses the Kasa app and integrates in with my google home easily.

Been using two for 3 years, mainly for Christmas lights. One is on an uncovered side of the house that gets blasted by PNW rain. No issues, wouldn't hesitate to pick another one up if I needed.

That's a typo. It's supposed to be Govee, a brand. They make all sorts of lights and automations.

I have a few of these and they're great. I've been running them inside and outside for a couple years and haven't had any issues.
