These are great for young kids at this price point. Just understand that there are no real cards of value in paper donruss, so you're just opening these for the fun of opening.

This Donruss Basketball Mega Box is mainly a low-cost rip for fun, gift giving, or younger kids, with 30 more cards than the Haunted Hoops trick or treat set and a higher card quality feel. The price can drop well below the listed total with rewards or certificates, and the box has even been found elsewhere for a dollar less. The main drawback is that paper Donruss is mostly junk wax with little real hit value, and this is last year's set, so Flagg is not included. A decent retail break if you are not chasing big cards.

  • collectors who are using rewards or coupons at checkout because multiple commenters reported stacking a $5 certificate and/or BB rewards to bring the total down to about $17.29 shipped with taxes or even $6.55 after tax.

    davidiqhenizwhoa

  • young kids who want something fun to open at this price point because commenters said paper Donruss has no real cards of value and it's mainly for the fun of opening.

    Packof12

  • gift buyers looking for a low-cost present because one commenter said it would be "perfect for a gift" and compared the deal price to Amazon showing $50.

    casualfitzy

  • people buying specifically for high-value "hit" cards because commenters warned that retail blasters and most Mega boxes are usually junk for hits, with only slightly better pulls sometimes.

    EntireStateofOH

  • buyers expecting $1,000+ cards from Donruss basketball because one commenter said you generally won't find that kind of value in Donruss basketball unless you're paying top dollar.

    Packof12

  • breakers or collectors who want consistently strong pull rates because commenters said YouTube breakers may be getting "juiced up" boxes and that their own experience with similar products was mostly low-value numbered cards and a massive stack of junk.

If you watched any breakers on this product on YouTube, you'll see its a ton of junk wax and maybe a handful of good cards out of the box. For $20 its not terrible but don't get your hopes up either. I recently bought 7 boxes of Revolution NBA(on sale $29.99 reg 49.99) and what a mistake that was. I was partially saved by a case hit Steph Curry ( but other than that, 2- $5 numbered cards. Just a massive stack of junk cards. I feel like a lot of big YouTube breakers are getting fed juiced up boxes to crack open in front of everyone. Then we go into retail and buy trash.

The retail blaster boxes are (almost) always complete junk in terms of "hits". Honestly... *most* Mega boxes are as well. Slightly better pulls usually, but sometimes not even worth much more than the little extra you pay for the Megas. Naturally the Hobby boxes are where it's at. Problem is... $$$$$$$$ But I agree, retail just sucks if the angle is hit cards, even if buying in large quantities, you can go (more or less) hitless sometimes.

Unfortunately the trading card industry has gotten outrageously expensive, so you're not really going to find much of value unless you're paying top dollar. If you're looking at retail products (defined as products that are available on store shelves and not in dedicated card stores), then "chrome" products tend to be of higher quality with more value. It just depends on your goals. If you're looking for a massive card that could be worth $1,000 or more then you just won't find it in Donruss basketball. You can find those cards in other Donruss products, such as Donruss football. But then you're just looking for special inserts, specifically Downtowns. Absolute football has Kabooms as does Panini Revolution basketball. Those Mega boxes can be had for $30 from time to time and they have cards that can be quite valuable. So, within this price range, that would be my recommendation. If you're willing to spend $100 per box, then Topps Chrome basketball mega boxes offer a better chance for big cards and a better baseline than Revolution.
