I have the breville. It works well as a standalone espresso machine as long as you keep it maintained. I do wish some days though that I had a coffee maker built into it.

We just started using the luxe pro yesterday and it's amazing.

Any comments on plastic parts? I read somewhere in reviews on Macys that plastic parts melting/corroding away with coffee and heat. Following is the review comment -

"I loved my machine until I realized the inner shower head / group head (after you remove the metal shower head) was plastic and was partially melted. I tried to replace the group head but this would require disassembling the whole machine. This is considered "normal wear and tear" since the acidity of the coffee will eventually melt the plastic."

I had the Ninja Luxe before I switched to the Breville Touch Impress. Ninja Luxe would be the machine to go with if you're are a beginner like I was when I started as it takes the guesswork of dialing in out of the equation, plus the Costco warranty makes it an attractive choice that will spare you from Ninja's likely unreliability in the first two years of ownership. But, the Breville will last a lifetime, Ninjas reliability will be iffy.

1) Coffee acid will not wear down food grade plastics... At least not meaningfully in a reasonable time frame.

2) I'm on year 7 with mine and had some wonderful espresso this morning off it. It's not going to hold up to commercial use, but I clean mine once every few months and it's been fine. That's servicing 2 casual coffee snobs daily + weekend guests.

FWIW, if it broke tomorrow I'd probably buy the same thing again. Only upgrade I'd consider is a plumbed in super automatic to ditch the water reservoir and make it so guests can self service. No complaints at all. We use Lavaza medium beans and get a wonderful crema.

I have had the model above this one going on five years. I've had zero issues with it and we pull 2-3 double shots a day.

I upgraded the portafilter early on (you don't have to) from a company called Crema. Also added a metal lever for the steamer wand for easier control (also totally optional and I have seen some 3d printed designs for this too now). Otherwise it's dead stock.

I think I'd like a nicer grinder, but honestly, we are getting into the weeds here, Looking at spending way more money with diminishing returns. Personally I wouldn't hesitate in buying this unit.
