Right! Roku, the king of mining personal viewing behaviour and grabbing every personal detail they can about you so they can sell it to data brokers is going to have a cam in my living room, or dog forbid, my bedroom? What could possibly go wrong?

As distinct from all of those other companies that sell cheap hardware with no spyware?

.......

Maybe you might get the signal from your neighbors Roku camera in their bedroom, ? Good, maybe?
Or their brilliant but awkward son who is living in the basement is able to hack into all your cameras and sell your info on the dark web? that's definitely bad

Is this only viewable on a Roku stick, or can I also view on my smartphone?

As an atheist, it's my go-to expression. Why give some imaginary guy with a beard, floating out there somewhere on the other side of the Andromeda galaxy all the credit when my Fido loves his praise?

Get a camera that puts out an rstp stream (like the cheapo, $15 Tapo C100), put it on a VLAN that is isolated/has no Internet access, and run your own, free, open source, frigate server.

https://frigate.video/

Problem solved!

Even does facial recognition, reads license plates (hook it up to home assistant ( also open source: https://www.home-assistant.io/) and have your garage door open by itself when you drive into your driveway). Store as much video as disk space you have. All for free. No subscriptions. Lots more features.

Unlikely since my cameras are on an isolated, AES-256, VLAN that has no Internet access, but he can try!

Not everybody has the skills to self-host everything as easily as you (-:
