As someone who grew up wearing real balaclavas, this has nothing on real weather protection.
Community Reviews
This fleece balaclava is aimed at cold weather use, with soft fabric and drawstrings that can tighten around the eyes and nose for better coverage. It has been used for snow, mail delivery, and snowblowing, and the separate hood style is appealing for different neck sizes. The main drawbacks are fit and build quality, since it runs small for some heads, can feel loose on others, and is described as very thin. A few comments also question whether it offers true balaclava level face protection.
Common Questions (5)
It appears to run small and may fit best on smaller heads or long-necked users. One report says it fit fine on a large head, but others describe it as too small, made for smaller heads, or not comfortable for all-day wear.
It is warm enough for snow clearing and winter outdoor work, but it may be too warm for skiing. It has been used successfully in sub-zero conditions and for mail delivery, while one report says it felt overly warm on ski days.
Yes, several reports describe it as very thin and cheaply made, with some saying it looks thinner than the product photos. One received unit was also reported to smell heavily like smoke.
No. The design leaves much of the forehead, eyes, nose, and upper face exposed unless it is pulled tighter, so it does not function like a full traditional balaclava. That makes it less protective in windchill than a true full-face model.
Yes. The drawstrings can be pulled to tighten the mask around the eyes and nose, and the listing describes it as adjustable. That helps reduce air gaps and improves coverage in cold wind.
