This Mac mini M4 deal stands out as a strong value for a compact macOS desktop, especially for everyday work, media, coding, and light creative use. The 16GB of memory and 256GB SSD are enough for many setups, and external Thunderbolt storage or an SSD upgrade can stretch it further. It also pairs well with existing monitors and peripherals, making it appealing for a DIY desktop setup. The main caveat is the small internal storage, which can feel tight for video work or large libraries, so it fits best when you are comfortable adding external storage.
Common Questions (5)
Yes, storage can be expanded externally very easily with Thunderbolt 4/USB4 SSDs, and several users report internal SSD replacement is possible on the 2024 Mac mini with a proprietary module. For most people, external storage is the simpler path; internal replacement may require another Mac and a restore process.
Yes. The common workflow is to buy at Best Buy first, then use chat or order support with a Micro Center link and a store ZIP code showing stock. Best Buy then issues a refund or credit for the difference, often within minutes to a few hours, though some cases take longer.
Usually yes, but the exact requirement is inconsistent. Some matches were approved using a Micro Center store in another state or far away, while other attempts were denied when the linked store was out of stock or the rep enforced a local-stock rule.
It is enough for light use, but many consider it tight for media, photo libraries, or pro video work. Several comments recommend pairing the base model with an external SSD or choosing the 512GB model if you need more local space.
Yes for general desktop use, browsing, iMessage/FaceTime integration, Plex/Immich/Docker, and even some audio or emulator workloads. One caveat is that music-production users mentioned Bluetooth latency/channel issues, and storage is the main limitation for heavier workflows.

BB chat agent agreed to price match, prepared me an invoice, told me to order at full price and then would forward me to a new agent that would issue a refund for the difference. I ordered at full price via invoice, second agent magically couldn't see previous chat due to "a glitch," refused to honor price as MC went out of stock in the 45 minutes since the chat had started and refuses to do anything.
TL;DR: I wasted over an hour with BB chat rep for nothing and no $400 Mac Mini to boot.

That said, I essentially ended up doing what you said and buying at full price and asking for a price match after the fact. What went wrong is between the time I started the first chat with the first agent, and they agreed to price match, and the time I got to the second rep after actually placing the order, MC went out-of-stock on the item and the second BB rep said no to the price adjustment. They also couldn't see the previous chat log with the previous rep who had price checked and verified, apparently.
Needless to say, I won't be picking up the $600 Mac Mini locally tomorrow when they do fill the order. I just want to serve as a cautious tale for others not to make the same mistake. Certainly wasn't worth the 5% i would have gotten back by using the Best Buy card, which is why I tried to get it from Best Buy in the first place.

1. Buy from best buy on line. Reps can't match the price before you buy. An online rep spent a long time convinced he could do it before I ordered only to generate an invoice with no discount because he, "could not adjust the price further before the purchase"
If you are afraid of not securing the price match, set for in store pickup since you can always cancel and not pick it up.
2. Use chat support online. Send them your BB order number and the link to microcenter. The agent I spoke to was easy and issued a credit for the difference (takes about an hour to show up). If the first agent doesn't work try again with another agent on chat support until you find one who does, but their policy includes microcenter so someone should do it.
3. Once you see the pending credit in the order details on your order history page on the web you're in the clear to go pick up your mac mini at BB or switch to shipping under order details.
I wouldn't try to price match in store, personally. The stores are slammed and seem to have more freedom to make up rules to say no.
Good luck and happy holidays.
I kept checking the order details for that specific order and after about 1 hour I saw a pending refund below the total. It still shows the $500 total (tax) on my orders page (list of all my orders), but for that specific order I see the "pending refund" of $84 or so.
