Cobalt bits are best for metal drilling.
Community Reviews
This DeWalt black and gold HSS jobber set is a compact, low cost drill bit kit that stands out for metal drilling and general shop use. The coating is described as helping reduce friction and hold sharpness, and the larger sizes use 3 flat shanks for better chuck grip. The set is also reported to hold up well over time. The main limitation is size, since this 14 piece version tops out at 3 8 inch, and the smooth shank on smaller bits can spin in some chucks.
DIYers drilling wood, plastic, and mild steel, because these bits are described as holding up well and working with cutting oil on metal.
Shoppers wanting a low-cost general-purpose bit set, because the black-and-gold HSS bits are described as among the better budget options.
People drilling larger holes with a standard chuck, because the larger sizes have 3-flat shanks that help keep the bit from slipping.
Metalworkers who want rust-resistant storage bits, because the black-and-gold finish is described as helping prevent rust and maintain sharpness.
Users who need aggressive stainless-steel drilling, because stainless is hard on these bits and cobalt bits are better for that work.
People who need a 1/2-inch maximum size, because this 14-piece set only goes up to 3/8-inch.
People whose drill chucks struggle to grip smooth shanks, because the lower half can spin even when tightened.
Buyers expecting premium metal-cutting performance, because these are described as standard HSS bits with a coating rather than a different class of cobalt bits.

What is so special about a "black and gold" coating?
Is this like titanium from Milwaukee or cobalt from Bosch?

I didn't actually purchase it (but thinking about grabbing it as an extra set) because I thought it was the 14 piece that had the 1/2", but this set only goes to 3/8". Going to wait for the 1/2" set to go on sale again for 10 and pick up 1 or 2 sets.

It was just off the website for a few minutes apparently and came back. Ordered 1 and got free shipping.
