The Govee app is awful though, and the light strip I got from them to act as TV backlighting died after two years of very infrequent use. Every one of my 25+ Kasa devices, however, are still functioning well, some at the 5+ year mark. Definitely trust them a bit more.

Kasa might be better if already using their app (one less app to maintain)

Kasa has been rebranded as Tapo and Kasa products can be integrated and controlled with the Tapo app.

Community Reviews

This Kasa LED strip stands out for app control, individually addressable LEDs, and easy integration with existing Kasa or Tapo setups. It works well for bias lighting and can be tied into ESP32 or WLED projects for more DIY control. The main caveats are that the white tone is not ideal for some uses, and the app experience has drawn complaints about lost features and missing power outage restore settings. A solid fit if you want smart strip lighting inside the Kasa ecosystem.

Guess it depends on how much you need, and how much you want to spend.

Those are segmented and the kasa are individually addressable. I have a set hooked up to an ESP32.

You can look up some tutorials for WLED, there are tons of guides on using ESP32s, raspberries, and arduinos. Long story short you just solder a few wires and download the software and configure as you like.

Isn't Kasa sunsetting many WiFi products? Can't trust a company that does that

I heard this a few years ago but nothing has changed. Everything still works and they are coming out with a few more product lines.

I see a lot of complaining in the reviews that the KASA app has somehow lost functionality, no more ability to choose on the color wheel, presets that aren't good, etc. I have no idea, but I want to buy this and would like input from people who have it already.

I use Kasa app for over 5-6 years, and TP-Link made push earlier in 2025 to migrate to Tapo app, but either work, and have worked. No loss of functions unless it was anything of my doing.
