You can still use it for secondary storage for games and stuff even if you can't boot to it

Zero. This is just an adapter and you would need to supply your own NVMe drive.

Yep, or even support any M.2 drive in the PCI-e slot. I thought I could clone a Win10 machine from the SATA HD to a M.2 on one of these types of cards in the PCIE card slot. Bios didn't see it, windows 10 didn't see it.

So no only could I not ever boot from one, I couldn't use it as a secondary drive either. This was an 'off network' Win10 Blue Iris install.

Yours is a completely tool-less installation. The one in the OP still requires the M.2 screw to secure the drive. Yours uses plastic retaining clips to secure the drive.
I'd opt for the tool-less version, personally.

I have an old Gaming PC and want to make bootable SSD. Is this compatible with MSI B85M-P33 motherboard? The MB have 1 x PCIe 3.0 x16 slot and 1 x PCIe 2.0 x1 slot.

I have this and super easy to use. My mobo was a lower end MSI that only has 2x m.2 slots. Needed to install another for photos, music, etc. Drive operates in it at a cool temp and has no issues.

FYI I bought x4 and x16 PCIe adapters from Aliexpress for $2.59 each back in October and they've been working fine.
