Okay if you only need 8. The 24 pack of Energizers is less per battery when not on sale, and the 3rd party lithium primaries (Rayovac [amazon.com]) are a little as $22.85/24 (95c ea) when you sign up for S&S and use the 30% off coupon.

Wonder how the Rayovac compare to the Energizer brand...using for Nest smoke detectors.

I use the energizers in mine, have 8. Figured they don't have to be replaced often at all, so might as well stick with what I know works, and lasts. Probably better to do that then save a few dollars and have to replace more often.

Project Farm just did a review of AA batteries, including these and Rayovacs. These Energizers ranked #1.

coupon price is $17.06 for me. they must've slapped on some weird California environmental fee to the price.

check your local costco. They started carrying these. Not sure what the price is but it's worth a wait if they come up with a coupon or goes on clearance

They're very good. On Project Farm most of the Lithium batteries performed really well, including the Rayovac. Just get the ones that are selling cheaper.

Here's the data from that video: In high drain applications, Energizer topped the capacity at 3.6 Ah, Rayovacs came in at 3.5 Ah, and the worst performing Lithium AA cell came in at 3.3Ah, a spread of <10% across 11 different brands. Essentially, choose by the unit cost. The best alkaline AA had just 72% of the capacity of the best Lithium AA. I'm not sure this is the best test of the batteries, honestly, as one of the best features of Lithium AAs is their exceptionally long life under micro-amp draws and in sub-zero temps, so they're exceptional for items you install and then don't touch for years on end.

If you want even more capacity, you can get a 4.1Ah *rechargable* lithium that also has low-capacity indicator (drops from 1.5V to 1.1V when the internal li-ion cell is nearly exhausted) using an XTAR lithium AA cell. They're also $6/cell, so more than a minor investment.

The older I get, the more I understand why we never had batteries around the house growing up.
Regular price is over 2 bucks a battery!

Apples to oranges. These are not rechargeable like Eneloop and these do better in cold conditions
