I have one of these. When my PC goes to sleep, the drives shut off properly, but the enclosure fan keeps running without stopping the entire time.

A couple reviews complaining that this DAS won't stay active and there's a power timeout that can't be disabled and which requires a hard reset to bring the drives back online. That's insane.

Liking that built in power supply, but only 5gbps for 4 drives?

Assuming the photos are to be trusted, it looks quite easy, as the screws are holding in the back panel and the fan is right behind it.
Also wondering about if it's a standard fan connector or proprietary.

since it's evidently not good for plex due it's turning off, what is a good plex use das option alternative? also, is there a suggested good, better, best hard drives for this and options where to buy?
A decent number of people seem to use the mediasonic ones, like this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09WPPJHSS/ (with and without RAID depending on your needs). The QNAP TR-004 is another common option https://www.qnap.com/en-us/product/tr-004 . I've seen reports of the latter going to sleep, but not hard sleep, so it'll wake up after a few seconds.

I feel like these boxes are rarely worth buying. You can easily get 8 3.5" HDDs and 2 2.5" SSDs in a Fractal Design R5 for about the same cost. People have put ~20 in there, though I wouldn't recommend it. And probably past 4 you're buying expansion cards. So I get there's a little bit of cost savings potential there in some instances.

Need a easy way to backup iPhone
This is a DAS. But the easiest would be to just buy a NAS like device like synology - which connects to your network so you can backup over wifi. The easiest and cheapest would be to find an old PC you have laying around and turn that into a server.

Yeah, I saw these as well and that killed the deal for me. I did some searching and the issue has never been addressed by Orico other than some Windows only hack to the firmware.
Likely the reason for the huge discount.

That's just a case, this is plug and play, no motherboard, no power supply, not wiring needed. I am not sure if I am missing something how this compares to what you suggested?

I was considering buying this but reviews mentioned data loss so I decided not to.
