They've definitely been fighting the new restrictions, but they've also hedged their bets and withdrawn warranties and DJI Care in the U.S. They see the writing on the wall.

The Mini 3 with DJI RC stands out as a compact 4K drone with strong camera quality and long flight time, especially with the extended battery pushing it past 50 minutes. The controller and flight setup are a big part of the appeal, and the drone is described as a pretty great first drone. The main drawbacks are the lack of obstacle avoidance and growing uncertainty around DJI availability, warranty coverage, repairs, and future software support in the U.S. A solid pick if those tradeoffs fit your needs.

Common Questions (5)

  • Availability has been intermittent because DJI drones have faced U.S. import and supply issues, and Amazon/Best Buy reportedly ended their DJI drone programs. Authorized resellers are also no longer authorized to sell it, so stock may be old or limited.

  • The current U.S. situation means warranty, DJI Care, and repair support may be limited, though DJI is still repairing existing drones for now. That makes the purchase riskier if you expect long-term service coverage.

    Greyson76saved1968

  • Yes, the standard battery is 38 minutes of flight time. With the extended battery, it can exceed 50 minutes.

    Greyson76EfficientHealth168

  • No, this Mini 3 does not have obstacle-avoidance cameras. That makes it less forgiving for first-time pilots, and it may be worth upgrading if you want that safety feature.

    SmilingKitten1512

  • The controller in this listing is not compatible with newer DJI drones like the Mini 5, Neo, or Flip. The newer RC2 controller works with those models, but not this controller.

Mainstream retailers have stock from time to time. My understanding is the supply issues have been primarily due to CBP. Perhaps the third parties have methods of dealing with them that the mainstream retailers can't or won't replicate...

Just to clarify, it's 38-minute flight time (not 8-minute).

It's not a ban on current drones, it's a statement that the U.S. isn't going to approve any new drone models going forward. You can still buy a Mini 5 Pro or Air 3S and it will work fine. You just won't be able to buy the eventual Mini 6 Pro. The lack of availability has been ongoing since spring and is mostly due to DJI abandoning the U.S. market.

I bought the same model over a year ago turned around and sold it for $100 or more I didn't even open the box. When I found out the controller was not compatible with the newer drones. I now have an RC2 mini 5 Neo 1.2 Flip And they all work with the new RC2 controller not this controller in the listing unfortunately.

Bought this as my first drone last year. It's pretty great but it doesn't have obstacle avoidance, and I've broken it 2-3 times already. Luckily I got the insurance for it, but if for some reason insurance is no longer available, I'd probably upgrade to one with the obstacle avoidance cameras instead.
