Generic...2025 Upgrade can't be the name, but it seems like a decent "Barista Express" type of machine for the money. On second though, it's a huge win that they didn't give it a didn't give it a cheesy brand name and label plastered on the front. One nice selling point is the 58mm portafilter, but upon closer inspection of the photos the brushed metal around the machine looks kind of cheap.

I think it comes down to can you afford a Breville Barista Express? If you can swing it, you're better off buying the Breville that's $500 right now. Twice as much, for sure, but a design with a proven track record from a reputable company.

For the amount of mechanics built into this machine and the extra stuff you get with it, it's hard to imagine any of it is anything better than serviceable quality, but for the price it'll probably do an OK job at making strong espresso as long as you intend to put it into a milk drink like a cappuccino or latte. I also wouldn't expect to get more than a couple years max out of a machine like this unless you're very regularly servicing it, but the type of people that actually service their espresso machines are not the same type of people that buy machines like this.

For this price and the genericness, my main concern would be the shite grinder. Doesn't matter if your espresso machine holds pressure if your grinds are poo poo. I'd ignore good reviews. It's a relative "5 star" product in the bracket of "2 star" overall. Like asking people what the best performing car is if all they care about is getting from "point a to point b" ( we all have at least one friend like that).

Not worth it in my opinion. Either it will break with difficult or zero repair or you will need / want something better soon and this will have no value.

Yes, if you did run into a problem with it down the road, what company would you contact? "Upgrade 2025"? The truth is, there is not likely going to be anyone to contact for service. Is this model going to be around a year from now? I doubt it. Breville and the Barista Express will be, that's for sure.

For those interested in buying a Breville knock-off check out CasaBrews on Amazon. They are a real company trying to break in to the market and they have a few compelling machines like the Ultra and their double boiler machine (both semiautos, but they do have a Barista Express style machine too). I bought an Ultra for $169, but I haven't used it yet. My Gaggia Classic refuses to give up the ghost, but someday soon I'll bust out the Ultra just to check it out.

Quality components that will last years and years. Like Kitchen-Aid Pro stuff -- you'll probably have their stuff for 10+ years. You want a pump in your espresso machine that will work every morning for years and years? You most likely will not get that with this no-name cheaper machine. And once it breaks, you have no choice but to trash it. If you're serious about making good coffee drinks, make the investment.

Sorry, I probably should have mentioned I bought it in June this year. It think it was $189 on BF and the two previous months, but it's hard to say what the price will be going forward.
