Thats called the more-cury discount!
Likely different species, albacore is generally known as white tuna, while chunk light is commonly skipjack, often scrap (no discernable musculature) with a 'fishier' taste but lower mercury content.

I was at a grocery store today and they had Starkist solid white Albacore on sale for 66 cents a can. I bought 15 of them. Best buy date was 2029. It has been a lot of years since I have seen that price.
