This bundle is a straight port of Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2, best for replaying two classic Wii-era platformers on Switch. The games are still praised as fun, and the timing may appeal to anyone wanting a refresher before the Mario Galaxy movie in April 2026. Pricing is the main sticking point, with comparisons to lower effective prices elsewhere and reminders that Nintendo Selects used to make these titles much cheaper. Visual downgrades are also noted, including missing shiny metallic textures and other inferior textures, so it feels more like a nostalgia pickup than a full upgrade.
Parents introducing kids to classic 3D platformers, because the bundle lets a new generation play two well-liked games that still feel fun.
It is below Best Buy's $69.99 listing and can be comparable to other retailers, with some shoppers noting better value if you can pair it with a 20% off peripheral offer or account certificates. Others still consider the bundle overpriced for two ports and would wait for a lower price.
They are straight ports, not remakes. That matters because the bundle is priced like a premium release even though no new design work was done, and some buyers feel a lower MSRP would fit a port better.
Some shiny metallic textures were removed, and other textures may be missing or inferior. The games still play as the original titles, but the visual presentation is not a full remake-level upgrade.
I'm pretty sure I paid less for both games combined in the Wii era. If my memory serves me correctly, I believe one of these Mario Galaxy titles was a "Nintendo Selects" title that Nintendo used to discount after an initial sales run to less than $20 to reach a larger audience…it was the complete opposite of their greedy and elitist approach of milking customers these days and considering their properties a "premium" gaming product.
It was. $20 to $30 games for their 1st party bestsellers. The $30 ones would usually be found $20 during sales, especially the holidays. It's how we could afford the expensive games during the N64 era. They discontinued the program with the Wii U, 2016 was the last year. 20 year run since 1996. Started as Player's Choice but made the name change to Nintendo Selects in 2011. The people who say Nintendo 1st party games were never cheap must have not remembered the program.
The current Nintendo is just more greedy than in the past. They were always a greedy company, but never to this extent, and they hid it much better. If people are wondering why Nintendo is the penny-pinching company it is today, the current Nintendo Japan President, Shuntaro Furukawa, is an accountant by trade. Even before taking on the role in 2018, he had a major hand in steering the company to what it transitioned to with the launch of the Switch 1. Any long time Nintendo player should have noticed the shift between the Wii U and the Switch 1 for the company's approach to things. I started to pay close attention with the paid online change. It just got worse from there. The Nintendo we see today is very much of his making, years before he took the helm, he was already helping to shift the company.

If there were two new games released on this cart it would have helped, but they already released one of these previously. So to many it is a double dip for half the cart. Most definitely not worth it to those people.
