The ZenBook 14 stands out as a thin OLED touchscreen laptop with strong everyday performance from the Ultra 7 255H, and the open box price around $535 to $650 makes it look attractive for the hardware. The 14 inch display, 16GB memory, and 512GB SSD fit a portable productivity setup, and the chip is framed as better for brute force work than AI focused Lunar Lake parts. The main drawbacks are soldered RAM, a low 13 TOPS NPU rating, and reports of loud fan behavior. Screen clarity and speakers also drew criticism, making it a solid compact option if those tradeoffs are acceptable.

  • people comparing it to other 14-inch OLED Ultra 7 options because commenters say it's a "good deal" at $650 and would be a jump-on purchase if they hadn't already bought a similar Vivobook for $450.

  • buyers who care about AI hardware capability comparisons because the community points out the NPU "13 TOPS" rating is meant as a way to compare AI performance across hardware.

  • shoppers who want a higher-end OLED experience but are okay with the specific Ultra 7 255H configuration because one commenter notes the OmniBook X Flip's 3K 120Hz OLED is better, while this deal is still positioned as the Ultra Core 7 alternative.

  • buyers who want strong NPU/AI performance for the money because multiple commenters call the "13 TOPS" figure low for the deal and question whether it's enough for future NPU-using software.

  • people who are sensitive to laptop fan noise because one open-box buyer says the fan "would never stop," with many online noise complaints, and that it "killed it."

  • people who need good speakers and crisp OLED clarity because a return reviewer says the OLED looked "oddly blurry" and the speakers were "trash," among the worst they've used.

  • buyers who specifically want higher AI-focused silicon (Lunar Lake) because commenters compare this 255H as having minimal AI integration and lower TOPS focus versus 256V/258V chips that focus more on AI.

  • buyers who are planning to rely on open-box warranty/credit-card coverage because one commenter warns that warranty extension/protection may not apply to open-box items, potentially forcing paid Geek Squad coverage.

Considering to buy this using my newly reset citi strata elite $200 credit, I suppose with the citi card's 2 year warranty extension it won't work with the open box item, in which case only way would be to buy the expensive geek squad protection!

Became kind of an emergency to buy new laptop after my Dell xps 15 unfortunately purchased for over 2k just over 3 years ago (so outside credit card warranty extension) suddenly stopped charging or turning on so presumably shot motherboard. For this reason don't care much about large disk space for data except to have ample for software installations, while all personal data stored on cloud onedrive!

I got this but I returned it. The screen is weird and oddly blurry, most likley due to the digitizer behind the oled per reddit, also the speakers are trash, some of the worst ive ever used

I admire your optimism, but there's just not enough room inside an Ultrabook for socketed RAM. One of the tradeoffs that has to be made for that slimness. 🙁

LOL! You wish I was a spammer but nope. The "RAM not soldered. Lame" comment was mine and contributive. Nobody cares if you dislike that.

Repped OP for sharing!
All LPDDR is soldered. Having it soldered directly improves signal, efficiency, power consumption and size constraints.
If you see reviews for desktop motherboards and how each motherboard has a different propensity for accepting high RAM clocks, thats part of the improved signal path to the memory slots that allows it.

So actual numbers, lpddr5x runs at ~0.5w, zenbooks usually run 7467MTs, but lpddr5x can go above 8000.

Your regular SODIMM ddr5 is going to be 1.1v at a max 5600MTs, which manufacturers usually install slower RAM.

When you are a manufacturer competing against other ultraportables, choosing LPDDR5X means you are more competitive on performance per watt, and overall battery life.

So soldered memory is objectively not lame. Its pretty cool. Just has its tradeoffs.

Your only real option will be the framework laptop.
