This is the first time I've seen it drop lower than $550. I heard once you are in Japan price of goods have gone up because of inflation but that's a different problem

Good deal. Is there a similar deal on a different airline (other than Zip Air) from LAX to Japan?

It's a low-cost carrier subsidiary of Japan Air Line.
Since it's a LCC, everything is an option. if that's ok, this is a go-to flight.

Don't forget amex 100 off 500 for those who have it if you buy directly from zipper. This is tempting, but given it have to pay for an extra luggage and food, I'm going to pass on this for now. It is tempting though.

Depending on your chosen flight date and route, even after adding options you can save $200-$400 or more compare to other airlines going to Tokyo Narita as your final destination.

I wouldn't want to go to Japan right now especially with all the earthquakes and tsunami warnings happening there.
You're not going right now, you're going in Jan/Feb/Mar
