Do not buy this product. This is the worst Ryobi product in my opinion. The mesh metal filter has a design flaw where it gets blocked very easily, even with small amounts of sand or other debris. Upon vacuuming anything dry, it is nearly useless after only a few seconds without unclogging.

An alternative is their hand performance vac, although it's not wet dry. The wet dry alternative would the 1 gallon vac, although it is not a hand vac.

I took a drill bit a tad bit bigger than the exiting hole and made more holes on the mesh. It'll clog the filter faster but solved the initial issue

For the price, I picked one up to use as a crevice vacuum for gold prospecting.

Interesting. I'm surprised to hear this. I've had this for a few years and it does what I ask it to for basic household tasks. Have been very happy with it. Handles pet hair well. The canister can fill up (mostly with pet hair) without major loss of vacuum. Can do a small amount of liquids without trouble. Would buy it again without hesitation for those purposes.

A lot of their vacs are poor performers imo

This thing is terrible at everything. Worst purchase ever, and when I bought it, it was only $20.

Agreed with the rest of the comments only good when freshly cleaned and fresh battery . I can tell you it's just a poor design and execution because I have the Ridgid/ryobi 3Gallon portable 18v vacuum and although only last 12-15 min works amazing. A step or two down from a full size shop vac great for quick In betweens but not practical in the kitchen. Wish they can use the sand tech and power in a smaller package. This is just a noise maker

Here's another thing to complain about: The silicone debris trap/flap has no spring or anything keeping it shut, so dirt and liquid can fall back out when you turn it off.

I can third this...vacuuming up sawdust is the worst with this. Within 5 seconds the dust blocks the filter then no more suction. I've found that hitting the side every few seconds brakes loose the blockage then it buys me another 5 seconds though, so guess it still can be used kinda? 😆

The best ryobi vacuum i have is the pet stick vacuum. That thing is amazing and we use it all around the house for everything. Can even vacuum under our sofa and some furniture

Short pet hair maybe. Any kind of clumping hair will get caught between the nozzle and the filter, preventing anything from getting in the canister. As other people mentioned, dirt will also clog the filter intake. It technically works as a wet/dry vacuum for small things, but this is definitely one of my worst Ryobi purchases.
I've since replaced this with the 1 gallon vacuum which works great for everything I've needed.

Correct, avoid this unless you enjoy getting angry quickly.

Too bad this does not work well. Having a hand vacuum with a Ryobi battery is a great idea. I have Black and Decker hand vacuums with stupid internal batteries, and like all Black and Decker products (never again!) the batteries die after three years and you have to throw out the whole vacuum. Terrible!

I had 5 of this style hand vac at various job sites and then switched over to the one gallon Ryobi 18v vacuum. The one gal vac goes on sale for $50. from time to time
