That is why I eat crab legs now. They are cheaper.

I can. I just had filet mignon last Friday. I buy it when it's on clearance, usually 40-60% off, or when it's on sale. Usually only pay $4.99-$5.99/lb. for T-bones, roasts, and less for round which I grind into Hamburger.

I go early Saturday morning when they mark everything down for the week and buy as much as I can fit in my freezer.

Takes a lot of crab legs to fill my tank, plus the shell to meat ratio is unforgiving😀

Definitely haven't been steaking very often anymore since beef is so expensive... I just paid $10 for 4 85/15 Angus hamburger patties ($7/lb) at Walmart, that's CRAZY. The prices at Sam's for filet mignon (the cheapest place around me for good thick cuts... USUALLY) is $30/lb for Prime or $23/lb for Choice.

What store do you get 5-6/lb for filet that does clearance on Sat? Or is that the price fo the other cuts you mentioned? If not for the filets, what is the avg price for the clearance filet? I don't think I have ever seen Sam's put beef on clearance before... I have seen them do it with turkeys and pork ribs.

We do similar with Aldi, for meat, fish, and bakery items. 3 days prior to expiration is 30% off and 1 day prior is 50% off. Cashier told me a few local restaurants will get a heads up for when meat/fish is marked down so they can stock up. Which initially sounded crazy, but it's believable esp w prices where they are now.

Crazy times we're living in

Walmart does the clearance on their top Angus cuts. Not always a great price, I only buy when it's 40% off or more. I checked the last two filet mignon and they were $9.05/lb on clearance. Roasts and steaks varry between $4.99-$5.99/lb. You gotta look for the yellow stickers and see what the discount is, but some of the pre-packaged vacuum sealed cuts get white discount stickers from the distributor that are easy to miss.

for hamburg, I get 90/10 for $4.99 at the local grocery store and make my own patties. it goes on sale once a month and you gotta buy the family pack of 10lbs or more.

You're never going to get a deal at Costco. Walmart doesn't have good prices on chicken or pork for some reason, and the discount isn't near as large as it is on beef, but I get boneless porkloin for $1.99/lb on sale and boneless skinless chicken breast .99 on sale probably 4x a year at the grocery store, again, you gotta buy in bulk.

I always portion out/cut up and vacuum seal before I freeze it.
