YMMV indeed - not necessarily on this string (thanks OP), but I noticed that every place I went post holiday, there were no lights. I ended up finding just a couple of strings (almost no cool white, which is my preference) on clearance after the holiday - did my best shopping on Christmas Day at lowes.com and homedepot.com.

Which is only an issue if the conductor is not sized correctly for the load. Are you hinting that the conductor is not sized correctly for the load?
