The S220 SoloCam is a convenient solar outdoor camera that stands out for easy setup, no subscription, and solid performance in the right conditions. The solar panels can keep units running for long stretches, especially in low traffic areas, and it works well with HomeBase 3 for extra local storage and AI features. It can also run without HomeBase, though with fewer AI tracking abilities. Main limits are no 24 by 7 recording or RTSP, and battery or solar performance can struggle in cloudy, cold, or busier locations.

Common Questions (5)

  • In good sun and low-traffic areas, the solar panels can keep them running with very little maintenance, with some setups only needing a yearly charge. In cold, cloudy regions or with short battery-saving clips, the panels and batteries may be undersized and may not keep up.

  • Yes, it can work without a HomeBase, but you lose some AI tracking abilities and local storage expansion. With HomeBase 3, it can use extended local memory instead of online storage.

  • No. These cameras cannot do 24/7 recording and do not support RTSP, so they are better suited to motion-based battery/solar use than always-on surveillance.

  • Yes, setup is straightforward enough that non-technical users can get them running without much trouble. The cameras are also convenient for places where you cannot easily run power or data lines.

  • Yes, it comes with a plastic mounting piece and a swivel-style mount that can point the camera up to 90 degrees in different directions. A magnetic third-party mount can also be used for a more repositionable install.

I have both this and an NVR based system. They both have their places. If you have the means to go PoE + NVR, that's clearly going to be a better system. It's kinda like arguing whether or not a Tesla has better acceleration than a Camry.

Where this Eufy system shines is that it's super convenient, easy, and cheap setup. No subscription fees and you can even skip the Homebase piece of you want just the basics (less storage and fewer AI features). The solar panel on these cameras are incredibly useful for specific needs where power/data lines cannot be ran, and an NVR system can't really compete with that - you're forced to run cabling or frequently recharge a battery.

Note these cannot do 24x7 recording nor can they do RTSP. Solid price though
You know any similar cameras that DO have rtsp?

Sick deal, but I'm done investing in Eufy. All 3 indoor cameras, 2 outdoor cameras, and 1 solar panel no longer work properly or at all in a matter of 3 years. All indoor cameras developed a static issue which prevents me from hearing any true audio while live streaming or reviewing playbacks. It's a software glitch shared by other Eufy owners online. The outdoor cameras got water in their lenses and now display a hazy view, which doesn't produce any promising visuals. And lastly, the solar panel got water damage and stopped working within a year. Their quality is just a big miss based on my experience.

I have 9 of the Eufy cameras with a Homebase. I've been adding cameras over the years. The first one still works fine. I had it for at least 4-5 years.

Just recently switched to a home-based from WiFi settings.

Can't be happier. No issues whatsoever.

If you want cameras where you can simply set them up and run, these are pretty good. My non tech savvy friends/family have been able to set these up without it being super complicated.

I've been really happy with these and the broader Eufy camera ecosystem. They have worked well for me, the solar panels are effective, and there is a good experience without needing a subscription. Nice deal!
Same. I've had my Eufy system for about 4 years now. For the price, it can't be beat.

woooow. Really? A solar camera with a battery can't record 24/7?! Mind blown!
There are actually several that can record 24x7 with a capture every second. Wyze's battery cam pro can record 24x7 on battery for a day or so. Tapo's can do the second capture, reolink has several models that can do 24x7 and last quite some time. So, consider your mind blown.

Pretty much no battery cams do RTSP for obvious reasons. If you want wired wifi cameras, there are several that do

Damn I bought these recently during BF. FYI I live in Bay Area CA and can't keep these charge in battery saving mode with short vids. Returned and hoping the S340 will do better once they arrive. They are currently on sale for renewed on Amazon for $99
I have the S340 - they pushed a Firmware Update on 12/05/25 (no way to stop it from upgrading) - and the battery charging slowed down considerably that as of today 12/29 its 8%. Anker support is Bots, no way to get hold of human. Been back and forth on email and They / Anker has not done a thing ; had to share the receipt, serial number, firmware , Etc. Always a need this ... no acknowledgment of issue , no trying to get logs . Very disrespectful/ lack of care or support. Stay away from Eufy. Had Arlo pro, wanted to upgrade ... should have just added solar panels to Arlo ... stay away ; or do this contact +1 (800) 988-7973 eufy support and see if get a Human to answer ..

Guess the latest firmware of 12/05/25 did not effect your cameras. Have u ever contacted Eufy support ?

I've got a Eufy system with 2 of these cameras and a doorbell along with the Homebase. I'm not a fan because it's very inconsistent on what it chooses to call an event and it misidentifies humans and pets regularly. Some of the captures only catch the end of events and I can't tell what happened or who it was. Also the package alert on the doorbell is very sketchy. Sometimes it works and other times won't even capture the delivery person. It's been ok for a cheap entry level system but I recommend looking elsewhere.
Have u ever tried to contact Eufy support ?
