Apple heavily advises against cases and they can cause overheating and the screen to crack.

The cases look ugly on MacBooks. Already metal. Just be a little careful and you will be fine. Don't need an ugly case.

Pls the airs don't have fans. So if you do anything more than browse and it heats up, you are going to trap heat.

I've actually used Mosiso clear cases on 3 laptops I've owned, and they're so transparent you can barely tell they're there. On the heat point, it has ventilation cutouts, so they're not sealing the bottom and "trapping" heat. I've had no issues doing normal work on my macbooks. Biggest thing for me is protection: mine has saved my laptop a couple of times from heavy scratches and dents. I'd rather have a nearly invisible case than risk a dinged-up chassis.

My sister got a case for her MacBook Pro, and her screen cracked after a few days, we notice the corner on the hinges were bending a little bit, barely noticeable, till it cracked, now she needs $600 to fix it!!

another downside is that dust can accumulate under the case and cause scratching that otherwise wouldn't occur under normal use.

Disagree with heat dissipation. The metal itself gets hot under even moderate load. Not having the air contact to dissipate heat is going to cause damage over time.

This right here! I stopped using these hard plastic cases when I noticed the tiniest specks of dust were grding the finsih off my MacBooks in between the case.. And I clean my gear obsessively. Plus, I dropped my backpack from a few feet and one of these cases did absolutely nothing to protect a MacBook Pro inside - I opened it to find my entire screen cracked). My wife also hade one of these overstress here 13" MacBook Air on the corners and caused screen cracking.

Nowadays I usually get one of those thin skins to decorate/protect my MacBooks from surface scratches and I store my computer inside TomToc cases inside my backpack when travelling. That combination has proven more effective - A little more expensive up front, but still cheaper than an AppleCare+ deductible.
