Frank's RedHot Original is a classic Louisiana style hot sauce that fits Buffalo wings, Taco Bell style flavors, and slow cooker meals especially well. It brings enough heat and tang to coat wings thoroughly, and it also works as a base for wing sauce with brown sugar, butter, and black pepper. The sauce is not bland even when sodium is kept in check, though the heat is only a little hotter than expected for Buffalo use. Shipping and packaging concerns have included cancelled orders and broken bottles, so the glass bottle sizes may be the safer route.

Common Questions (5)

  • It is only a little hotter than mild Buffalo sauce, but it fits the classic Louisiana-style Buffalo wing flavor. If you want more heat without changing the base flavor much, cayenne, habanero, ghost, scorpion, or reaper powder can be added.

  • A 64-oz container can be enough to completely sauce a batch of wings. It also works well as a base for wing sauce when mixed with butter, brown sugar, and black pepper.

  • It works especially well with Taco Bell-style flavors and has been used with items like Diablo Chicken Nacho Fries. It also fits slow cooker meals, which can benefit from extra seasoning.

  • It is not bland even when sodium is being limited. A little soy sauce can be added if more saltiness is wanted.

  • The Subscribe & Save orders were previously canceled, and bottles that did arrive sometimes broke in the mail with no replacements available. That makes the larger container a packaging risk to watch for.

This stuff is soooo good, especially the Taco Bell menu based on this sauce. Their Frank's RedHot Diablo Chicken Nacho Fries were ridiculously tasty.

Finally, I'll be able to completely sauce my wings enough with just one container of hot sauce.

I have the Buffalo sandwich sauce version which I guess is thicker. But it's not spicy and has tangy taste. Would this be hotter?

Considering that buffalo sauce is just the hot sauce with butter, probably not. I prefer cholula, Victoria, or El Yucatan, if you want better flavor and spice.

Heat 1 part this and 75% part brown sugar and some butter and black pepper. Makes great wings sauce. Yum.
