This SharkBite brass crimp ball valve is a PEX shutoff valve that stands out for its DZR brass construction, which is valued for resisting dezincification in hard water. It is also useful for winterization or other lines that need to be fully drained, especially when a drain port or nipple matters. Installation is not push together, though, since it needs a crimp or cinch tool and rings. It is not for copper pipe or CPVC, which uses glue instead. A solid fit for PEX plumbing when the right crimping gear is already on hand.
Common Questions (5)
Yes. This is a crimp-style SharkBite valve, not the push-to-connect type, so installation requires a crimper and rings or a crimp/cinch tool.
No. CPVC typically uses solvent glue rather than clamp or cinch rings, so the PEX crimp system does not apply.
It is for PEX pipe, not copper pipe. The fitting is meant to be crimped onto PEX with the proper rings and tool.
A drain port is useful when the line needs to be fully emptied for winterization, such as outdoor spigots or other freeze-prone runs. For many indoor shutoffs like under-sink or laundry lines, a non-drain-port valve is usually fine.
Yes. It is made from DZR (dezincification-resistant) brass, which helps reduce zinc leaching and early failure in hard-water systems.

we got ones with the drain port for shut offs that feed spigots, but for everything else (ie under sinks when using in-lines and not 1/2 x 3/8comp), lines that feed laundry connections, and others, you don't need the drain port.
unless this valve is feeding a fixture that gets winterized, saved yourself the money and get a non-port one
this is a very good thing. there are a lot of cheap ball valves sold in stores and online which are not made out of DZR brass, and hard water will cause the zinc to leach out of the brass resulting in failure. i've had non-DZR brass valves start pitting and failing in as little as 5 yrs on water supply lines with hard water
