HP OMEN MAX is a strong 16 inch gaming laptop for high end RTX 5080 performance, with a QHD plus 240 hertz display, replaceable RAM, and upgrade paths up to 64GB or 96GB. The AMD model is described as running cooler for casual use, and one temperature check showed about 82 degrees Celsius on Cinebench and 62 degrees on Time Spy. The main cautions are thermal headroom and RAM compatibility, since some configurations have needed repasting or undervolting and certain memory kits would not work. It is a capable gaming machine, especially if you want extra VRAM and upgrade flexibility.
Upgraders who may want more memory later, because the RAM is replaceable and higher-capacity 64GB or 96GB options are available.
PC gamers who want extra graphics memory for modded titles, because the 5080 version is described as strong for gaming and the extra VRAM helps with mods.
Laptop gamers who prioritize a fast 16-inch display, because the 240Hz QHD+ panel is praised as the kind of screen that beats non-OLED alternatives for this size.
People who want a gaming laptop that can stay quiet during light use, because the fans may not run at all for casual tasks.
Thermal-sensitive gamers who push sustained loads, because the machine can run hot enough to throttle and may need repasting or undervolting.
Buyers who expect a premium touchpad and speakers, because the touchpad is described as cheap and the speakers as really bad.
People who want a trouble-free memory upgrade, because RAM compatibility can be finicky and some kits may not work even after extensive troubleshooting.
Owners who want a clean out-of-box gaming setup, because the Intel version can arrive with HP bloat and SSD access may require heatsink removal and repasting.

Only downside is this model gets a bit hotter than other brands like ASUS or Dell Alienware

PS- Microcenter return policy is 100 times better than HP.com as well.

It's a decent machine, but a few things to keep in mind, comparing to similar products:
- touchpad is cheap and terrible
- speakers are really bad
- overheating issues (repaste or RMA)
- HP bloat (do a fresh install)
- 5080 and 5090 versions primary SSD slot requires heatsink removal and repaste.
All that said, it's good for gaming - the extra VRAM over 5070 is worth it, especially if you mod games. Frame gen x4 is better than I expected and I run Cyberpunk with most RT options.
