For the most part they are a joke. At the volume of water you are moving at a time and the size of the "filter" nothing is going to happen.
Your best bet is a whole house water softener, I also have extremely hard water (9.5GpG) and the softener was worth every penny.

I live in an apartment so it's a bit more of a PITA to get one installed. Thankfully I'm moving to Florida in July so I shouldn't have to deal with hard water anymore. Thanks for the input on the showerhead though!

Florida is a big State. It depends on where you are. Our water isn't that bad, other than overabundance of chlorine the city puts in it.

Initially not convinced. But the 4th photo just spoke to me. 9 spray settings, you can literally "ransform your shower"!

I grew up in Cape Coral and don't remember hard water, but it looks like much of the state does in fact have hard water...I retract my statement 😂. I'll be heading to the Tampa area and the water looks quite hard there.

some people might be skeptical about random name shower heads - i bought an "AquaDance" and its amazing. i would buy this too if i needed a new one for the other shower
