While similar, they do not have the same features. There's no precision finding on the Best Buy version. With the AirTag, your phone will lead you to your keys that you left in the jacket you hung up last night. The Insignia locator will let you know that your keys are in your house... somewhere.

For large items, it probably doesn't make much difference. For smaller items, the utility of the precision finding can't be overstated.

I've used both and they both are useful in their own ways, but to say they are the same is disingenuous.

This is a pretty standard price for this 4 pack. Keep in mind apple may be releasing AirTags 2 this year.

Not a deal. The Best Buy version of this with the same exact tracking network is $15 for a pack of 4. https://www.bestbuy.com/product/i...J2FPJK98Q5

I'm about to embark on an international trip. While $15 sounds like a good deal on those insignia ones, I think I should go ahead and get the apple ones.

What do you think?

get the apple ones. It's the difference between knowing your bag is at the airport, versus being able to point at the exact shelf it is sitting in the lost luggage room.

I've never really understood these things.

Do people really misplace things so often they need a $16-25 tracker on them? I mean, I know where my wallet and keys are at all times -- the keys are for my 1st and 2nd most expensive possessions (house and car), so I tend to take care of them properly. Is mindfulness really such an abstract concept for most?

As for "in case of theft", these things report to anyone nearby them "hey, there's a tracker here!" (for good reason, to avoid stalking situations). So the thieves just destroy the items or rip out the tracker. Hate to say it, but in 2026's America...you're not getting the stolen item back. Police simply do NOT care. So you better take that $25 and invest it in deterrents.

I recently went on a multi city international trip with those insignia airtags.
I will preface by saying I don't use an iphone (android guy), but I do have an active iphone, which is what i used to connect those insignia airtags. My daughters are iphone users and so i shared those insignia airtags with their accounts. During the trip, my iphone was off. We were able to see the airtags in our first city. However, after that first day, we were not able to see it again in any other cities the rest of the trip. i don't know if having my iphone off affected it or not, but my daughters were never able to see it after the first city (3 other cities). when we got home, I did turn on my iphone and when I checked later, it was able to see the airtags. I didn't check to see if I could see them while at home with the iphone off. It was my first foray into these types of items so you should take this incident with a grain of salt. My wife and daughters are going on another trip and i will check again.

I don't have experience with insignia but I went to south America for 6 months with 4 AirTags in my
- backpack
- passport sling
- large suitcase
- carryon

While it's a bit nerve racking departing in the plane and seeing items "left behind" it's due to their signal bouncing off other Apple devices.

Otherwise they were great, always knew where my stuff was since their location is updated each time an Apple device is within range.

If you need real-time tracking - like for pets or kids - buy a real GPS tracker
