The HD 560S are open back wired headphones tuned for detailed, analytical listening, with strong directionality for PC and FPS gaming and clear vocals. They are comfortable for all day wear, easy to EQ, and can run from a PC or a small amp without much trouble. The sound leans bright and bass light, so bass lovers may want EQ, and the open back design lets in outside noise. At around this price, they stand out as a strong value for gaming and casual critical listening.
Common Questions (5)
At around $75, several comments treat it as a strong bargain for a comfortable, durable headphone with easy EQ and good gaming performance. A few open-box orders were also reported as cancelled or dead on arrival, so condition and fulfillment are the main risks.
It is generally described as brighter and less veiled than the HD6XX, with a sound that is very similar to the SHP9500/9600 but a touch warmer and with a bit more bass. Compared with the K702, it is closer in presentation and is often favored for analytical listening.
It is often treated as an analytical headphone with a neutral-leaning tuning, but one comment says it is better suited to audio production than everyday listening while another says it is too bass-light and rolled off in the highs for production work. For casual listening, EQ can help if you want more bass.
It can run directly from a PC without an amp. Some users still pair it with a small amp or DAC/amp for extra headroom, but it is not required for basic use.
Yes. The open-back design gives strong directionality and makes enemy footsteps and positional cues easy to hear in FPS games, but outside noise will also come through.

One annoying thing about Sennheisers is that they use a non-standard jack - it is 2.5mm I think instead of the more standard 3mm. And even worse, they have a "locking" mechanism on the plug - it's just a groove on the plastic part of that jack that you have to twist when you plug it in. This means its very hard to find a mic that will just plug in to the headset without an adapter. In fact, I have only been able to find one adapter - and I have looked very hard.
I really love the sound of these headphones though, and overall this mic/jack thing is minor.
As for the SHP9500 (and possibly the 9600) - you can make the sound warmer in those by changing out the ear pads to velour ones - I did that when my original pads wore out (yes, I wore them that much!) and now they are super comfy and have a nicer sound, too! IMHO, These two headphones (the Philips SHP9500 and these Senss), when they are priced around $80, are some of the best headphone bargains there are.

Nice post. Which pads do you use for the SHP9500? Thanks
