"When you upgrade to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, we'll convert any prepaid time you have on Xbox Game Pass or EA Play subscriptions and apply it toward Xbox Game Pass Ultimate at the current conversion ratio, up to a maximum of 36 months.
Xbox Game Pass Essential conversion percentage: 40% of your remaining time will convert to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate time and be rounded up to the next full day. For example, 90 days remaining of Xbox Game Pass Essential will convert to 36 days of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate time."
Based on the code conversion chart. for existing GPUltimate, 12 months of GPEssential applied to it becomes 91 days of Ultimate.
However, if you applied 12 months of GPE first, then get GPU, it becomes 146 days.
My question is: am I the only one that think that the prices for the memberships are already on the "expensive" side?
Kids (as far as I know) do not have that amount of money to burn month after month and adult gamers (in theory) do not have time to play all day everyday
Just my honest opinion
Community Reviews
Xbox Game Pass Essential is mainly a low cost way to keep Xbox online multiplayer access, with a small library of older games and cloud play on supported devices. It also works as the base tier for conversion to Ultimate, but the conversion math is much less generous now, and stacking old base time before adding Ultimate is the better route. The library is described as limited compared with Premium or Ultimate, and free to play multiplayer games do not need it for online access. The promo code is expired, so this thread is mostly useful for understanding the tier and conversion rules.
Common Questions (5)
No. Essential converts at a reduced rate, and 12 months of Essential applied to an existing Ultimate subscription becomes about 91 days of Ultimate. If you want the best conversion, load Essential first and then add Ultimate afterward.
Yes, it covers online console multiplayer, which is the main reason to buy it if you only want to play online. It is also unnecessary for free-to-play multiplayer games like Fortnite, Warzone, and Overwatch 2.
It includes a small library of about 50+ games, mostly older titles, plus a few notable ones like Hades, Dead Cells, Control, Gears 5, and Psychonauts 2. It does not include the larger day-one library or Fortnite Crew that come with Ultimate.
Yes, the code can still load without issue, but it does not convert as favorably when stacked onto existing Ultimate. One purchase reportedly added 6 months to Xbox Premium, while another buyer said Ultimate did not expire until after the holiday period.
Yes. The promo code was reported as expired, so the deal is no longer active.
