Since this thread will probably get a lot of views let this be my yearly reminder that when it comes to the desktop/download version, virtually no one needs anything other than Turbotax Deluxe.

TT strongly pushes Premier and Home & Business but the fact is that TT Deluxe can handle every situation that these more expensive versions can. The only exception that I am aware of is the ability to create W2 and 1099 forms for employees in H&B.

Deluxe has everything for all investment types, everything for owners of rental properties, everything for self-employed (1099-NEC/Schedule C filers), everything for those who do itemized deductions.

The higher versions offer more guidance but Deluxe has all the forms required and will still walk you through all of it.

Note that Turbotax Online is completely different, Deluxe Online is purposely limited forcing more complex returns to use the more expenisve Online versions than Deluxe.

Friendly reminder that this now requires Windows 11 and unfortunately will not work on Windows 10.

Or just do freetaxusa and get the same experience on the web for free. I think state is like $15 if you want to do that through them too

This deal post is to trigger people's alerts that the TurboTax deal with the $10 gift card is now live. There is a post from 1/1 that has this same deal, but since it was posted over two weeks ago, it will not trigger people's alerts. Hopefully, this post will help others if they've forgotten to check on 1/19.

Don't need state but have investment accounts. Will I be forced to upgrade to premier if I get deluxe?
Not with the download version being discussed here (online TT is different)

Deluxe download handles ALL investment accounts/types, even K-1 partnerships

Both Deluxe and Premier have the same ability to directly download 1099-B (incl 1099-INT and 1099-DIV) data from most financial institutions so you don't have to do any data entry.

Holy crap!! I am glad I read some of these comments before I wasted my money to discover (and verify!!) that:

THIS WON'T INSTALL ON WINDOWS 10!!! -- Even with the ESU support.

My computer has the ESU and I haven't attempted the workaround. Guess it's my year to try freetaxUSA.

Surprisingly, there is no coupon for Business version. Does Costco price matches on software if they happen to put it up on sale soon?

What's the difference between deluxe and premier then?

Oh and in for 1.... great deal OP, even if next year I maybe can save a little by downgrading versions....

Premier basically gives you the option to view additional help topics during the interview process.

ETA: Its actually genius marketing, a lot of folks want to believe their tax returns are too complex for the basic version of TT (deluxe) so they willingly pay more for "Premier" because they think they need it and their brokerage accounts or self-employment income means they need to step up to the next level.

Anyway its only an extra $20 bucks, people certainly waste a lot more money on other things - if it makes you feel special then by all means, pay for the Premier version.

The physical card is to prevent you from using Amazon digital credits towards the purchase, otherwise I would imagine some folks would save up credits all year to get TT for free.
Exactly this! I have $14 in digital credits and have been waiting for deal on TT to use it. Was hoping to double-dip here but the credit does not apply to this bundle but will apply to TT on its own.

For situations where you need to import investments trades as a csv, you need premier.

You should be able to use Rufus to build a Windows 11 installation USB stick and do an in-place upgrade on your Windows 10 PC. Rufus is trusted and free and Windows 11 is freely-downloadable from Microsoft. I have two 2012-era PCs running Windows 11.

I've never tried to import a CSV file but according to Google you are wrong - both Premier and Deluxe (download) have the same ability to import TFX format files and neither supports csv files.

"TurboTax Premier supports CSV file imports for cryptocurrency transactions, primarily in the Online version, allowing users to upload CSV files from major exchanges. However, the TurboTax Desktop (CD/Download) Premier version does not directly import CSV files for general investments; it requires .txf files, direct broker import, or manual/summarized entry. "

"Yes, the TurboTax Deluxe desktop (CD/Download) version can import investment data via .txf (Tax Exchange Format) files. This allows users to import stock transactions and other investment income from brokerages or software like Quicken. The feature is accessed via File > Import > From Accounting Software"

If you are referring to Premier online then that is a completely different product/offering and not related to what this SD thread is about.

Staples in-app has a $20 promo card with a $50 purchase. Pricematch to Amazon and get $20 staples promo card. Maybe that is an alternative option if it works?
