Since this thread will probably get a lot of views let this be my yearly reminder that when it comes to the desktop/download version, virtually no one needs anything other than Turbotax Deluxe.

TT strongly pushes Premier and Home & Business but the fact is that TT Deluxe can handle every situation that these more expensive versions can. The only exception that I am aware of is the ability to create W2 and 1099 forms for employees in H&B.

Deluxe has everything for all investment types, everything for owners of rental properties, everything for self-employed (1099-NEC/Schedule C filers), everything for those who do itemized deductions.

The higher versions offer more guidance but Deluxe has all the forms required and will still walk you through all of it.

Note that Turbotax Online is completely different, Deluxe Online is purposely limited forcing more complex returns to use the more expenisve Online versions than Deluxe.

Friendly reminder that this now requires Windows 11 and unfortunately will not work on Windows 10.

Or just do freetaxusa and get the same experience on the web for free. I think state is like $15 if you want to do that through them too

Why did Slickdeals stop taking me to the last unread post in my subscribed threads and now makes me have to figure out where I left off?

Yeah, that's the first thing I checked. Plus, I tried different browsers and checked my account settings. It gets frustrating with these large threads.

Which version is good for daytrading and ev tax credit filings? Home get the job done?
Deluxe supports importing of 1099-B (brokerage transactions)

Deluxe has form 8936, Clean Vehicle Credit

Anything more than Deluxe desktop you are wasting your money

I always do turbo tax online since it allows me to adapt to my needs while i answer questions and do my taxes.. and I understand I sometimes have to pay more for that flexibility. I have never tried desktop version. Does it provide same flexibility? Does it cover most scenarios? I have to do fed + state and I have investments, crypto, backdoor roth ira, mortgage, etc. Will "Intuit TurboTax Deluxe Desktop Edition 2025" work? I am not sure why a desktop version is even a thing in this day and age Smilie. Isn't everything online and web-based for maximum flexibility? I dont see much deals for online version though.
Yes. It's the exact same hand-holding experience. In fact, I prefer it over online for many reasons that include it's snappier to use, does 4 filing for price of 1, data is under your control, and you have the TT file that in the next year is imported directly (rather than a PDF OCR approach). I started with online and now prefer desktop. If you want it "online" save the TT file to your cloud drive as you can install the Desktop on (I believe) up to 5 computers.

FYI, in terms of capability, last I checked Premier Online == Deluxe Desktop.
Intuit does this on purpose to confuse folks into purchasing more than they need.

Yes, Deluxe desktop will handle investments, crypto, backdoor roth, mortgage (itemized deductions), SE income (Sched C), etc

Some people are saying that when you install desktop you get an offer to switch to Premier online completely free - so maybe buy desktop and then continue online to do your taxes the way you prefer.

Thanks for this posting. Got mine this morning. Oddly enough, when I searched Amazon directly, I got the $44 price, but the gift card was nowhere to be found. Good thing this deal had the card attached.

True! But for me, the extra guidance the Home & Business provides to me is worth it. It holds my hand filing out the business portions which I like because I'm tax prep illiterate (thanks tax return lobbyists 🙄) so the extra cost to make sure I fill everything out correctly is worth the the piece of mind.

Can use a virtual machine (via virtual box) to run a win 11 vm within win 10. I've got mine set up, but haven't yet put TT '25 on it
Yes but you can use it for online now. Just install the software and key and say with no extra charge use for online or desktop

Had all kind of payment issues on Amazon attempting to buy this, that I have never had, and I buy thousands of dollars of merchandise a year. Finally gave up and bought it on Costco. Not sure why I was having those issues on Amazon

Good deal, especially if you'd rather have the amazon credit versus in-product credit that Sams Club and Costco offer. BTW Sams club and Costco are now on sale for the same price as well if you prefer!

Check your visa or amex offers. You may have $20 off $40 on turbotax directly. Combined with the Fidelity offer of 25% or 30% off, that would be cheaper
