The Last of Us Part II Remastered on PlayStation 5 is a visually sharp, tightly playing action game that stands out for its combat, impact, and No Return mode. The upgrade path is also useful, since the PS4 version can be upgraded for $10, and the game has been seen as low as $12 at a Phoenix store. The main drawback is the story, which draws strong criticism for its writing, pacing, and ending, even as the gameplay and graphics get high marks. A strong pick if you want the best version of the game and can live with the narrative.
story-mode completists on PS5 who want a remastered version because even players who found the pacing and violence overly brutal still finished it as a completist for the story.
PS4 owners considering the PS5 version because you can buy the PS4-to-PS5 upgrade if you already own the PS4 version.
players who mainly care about combat and graphics on PS5 because commenters said it "looks amazing" and "plays fine" even when they disliked the story.
people who want a short-burst replay option because the No-Return rogue-like mode was described as fun in spurts.
buyers who want a strong narrative and replayability because multiple commenters said the story is the worst part and that they likely won't ever play it again.
people who are sensitive to heavy, dragging violence because one commenter said the final hours felt overly brutal and they just wanted the game to end.
players who want meaningful player agency because one commenter criticized it for having "zero player agency" and "almost no game play evolution," saying you don't want to touch it again after finishing.
buyers who already feel remasters are unnecessary because one commenter argued that remastering for a new console without major architectural changes doesn't really warrant a new version.

Part One ended brilliantly by leaving it open ended and for the player to decide the morality if it all, but this one gives a clean cut ending which I find to be far less intriguing and worse than if they had ended it before the final section.
I've replayed the first multiple times over the years, but it's extremely unlikely I'll ever play this one again.
TL;DR: looks amazing, plays fine, feels bad hard pass unless it's dirt cheap, sub $20. Can't wait till woke Neil Druckmann retires.
