The Last of Us Part II Remastered on PlayStation 5 is a visually sharp, tightly playing action game that stands out for its combat, impact, and No Return mode. The upgrade path is also useful, since the PS4 version can be upgraded for $10, and the game has been seen as low as $12 at a Phoenix store. The main drawback is the story, which draws strong criticism for its writing, pacing, and ending, even as the gameplay and graphics get high marks. A strong pick if you want the best version of the game and can live with the narrative.
Common Questions (4)
It is widely described as worth the current price because the gameplay, graphics, and combat are strong, and the PS5 version adds the No Return roguelike mode. A practical caveat is that the story and ending are a major turnoff for some players, so it is best for shoppers who care more about gameplay than narrative.
Part II is generally described as having better gameplay and stronger impact, while Part I is often preferred for its story and ending. The main tradeoff is that Part II's narrative and ending are much more divisive than its combat and presentation.
Yes. If you already own the PS4 version, you can buy the PS5 upgrade for $10 instead of paying full price for the remastered edition.
Yes. The PS5 remaster includes No Return, a roguelike mode that is fun in short bursts and adds replay value beyond the main story.

Part One ended brilliantly by leaving it open ended and for the player to decide the morality if it all, but this one gives a clean cut ending which I find to be far less intriguing and worse than if they had ended it before the final section.
I've replayed the first multiple times over the years, but it's extremely unlikely I'll ever play this one again.
TL;DR: looks amazing, plays fine, feels bad hard pass unless it's dirt cheap, sub $20. Can't wait till woke Neil Druckmann retires.
