I've had great one-off experiences with other branded mats over the years- I'm retiring my beloved mat that I bought at Aldi several years ago and sadly, Crane never made that exact mat again. I was gifted a Solana brand mat over the holidays and will be trying that one soon.

anyone genuinely interested who is reading this: I would buy something cheaper, like this, and then decide if you need a thicker mat, stickier, lighter weight, less common size (longer/wider, etc), and actually figure out if yoga is something you'll stick with. I thought I needed a thicker mat for the cushioning, at first, but I soon realized I preferred a thinner mat for easier balancing.
also, someone mentioned using a blanket (or towel) for more cushioning, but another option, if you don't mind, is to fold a mat over onto itself.

This mat listed here is a decent cheap brand. PVC is cheap and sticky, but this is a thin mat - it would hurt my knees.
This cost is about what shipping is for a product like this. I have no idea how they make any money...
