Got a cheap $50 telescope for my daughter for christmas, it's horrible you have to aim and then tighten down and lock in place. And you do you're going to lose whatever you aimed at. The tripod is just too small and too light, wonder if this one is the same way

Yup. Telescopes are an item worth spending the extra money on to get a good one. The cheap ones are no good and ruin the experience.
