That only affects future models, not existing models.

I've owned the Mini 3 and have never had a problem with wind. I've flown it at the Cliff of Moher, Dolomites, Norway's Fjords and Swiss Alps and never had a problem. I do highly recommend the extra batteries tho. Also another tip, if you have the obstacle sensors turned on, remember you will over ride it with this drone by keeping your finger full force on the toggle. I learned the hard way. Ended up crashing it in a forest but was still able to find it with the GPS it provides.
I don't have the edited pics, but here's some examples.

I've got a Mini 2. Biggest complaint is wind resistance. A normal breezy day and your getting wind alerts on the display and you can visually see the Drone struggling. Beach? Forget it.

Just FYI, the FCC has banned future sales of DJI drones...
That only affects future models, not existing models.

Ban details ... https://uavcoach.com/dji-ban/
Sounds like a real PiTA
  • What happens to updates, repairs, and parts? DJI says it intends to support existing users, but firmware updates, repairs, batteries, and spare parts may become slower, harder to obtain, or unavailable over time.
  • What should DJI owners do now? Update firmware where possible, secure spare batteries and consumables, back up flight data, and document fleet serial numbers and configurations, especially for commercial operations.

I wouldn't be too concerned with rotor blades/batteries. There's ton already out there and I'm sure you can get some from Canada - they themselves don't have any transmission capability.

I have a mini 2 also. Have you ever tried flying your drone at dusk or at night? Are you able to? The one time I did, it went from a hover to flying sideways full speed into the side of a building. Luckily, I found it and repaired the prop.Maybe I was doing something wrong and didn't wait for the gps > 10? Also, in low light, it constantly tells me to calibrate the gps by spinning the drone in my hands but I'm never able to perform the calibration.

Some have told me that it defaults to IMU instrument mode in low light if without gps and relies on its cameras to figure out reference points. Which inevitably fails.

I haven't tried to fly at dusk/night. Also, it's never once asked me to calibrate by holding it in my hands or similar. And I haven't a clue what your second paragraph even means. laugh out loud

Paid $175 used from a pawn shop like 3 years ago. "Fly More" bundle and in flawless condition. I don't have a ton of money invested, so I'm not super upset about the wind thing, but it has stopped me from flying/continuing to fly 5-6 times. If I were to buy another drone, wind resistance would be at the top of my list. Had to share. Embarrassment

there's no ban on future drones. that's just like saying we're outlawing future crimes.

the FCC ruling last month basically said the US government is done with certifying any more DJI (foreign) drones. there is an exemption process but DJI is never going to get a pass.

I'd be surprised if B&H gets any more units to sell. I think the ban means no more deliveries from DJI to the U.S., so vendors only have their current stock to sell.

Probably best to focus on what's actually happening, vs. what we think might be happening. Also, the ban (FCC), which is new, isn't the only factor here - CBP's actions have been in play for some time.

My point is that you have to be a little skeptical about a backordered DJI drone at B&H ever coming in. I wanted to buy this drone from them but ended up taking a chance on one of the shady vendors on Amazon. Luckily everything seemed okay with the order.

Rumor has it B&H no longer depends on shipments from DJI (haven't been since last year) and will get drones from other places likely across the border.

I have Mini 3 here with the base controller and I had a Mini 2.

I haven't tried either in high winds but the Mini 3 flys well and camera is better than the 2.

I have flown it dusk and had no issues at all.

Overall I would recommend it.
