Community Reviews
The DJI Mini 3 with RC screen controller stands out as a compact drone with a better camera than the Mini 2 and smooth flying in normal conditions. Dusk flights are described as trouble free, and the screen controller adds convenience. Wind resistance remains the main limitation, with Mini 2 experience showing wind alerts and visible struggle on breezy days, especially near the beach. Low light flying can also be risky on the Mini 2, and the Amazon DJI Store listing may route through third party sellers rather than DJI itself. A capable travel drone if wind and seller details are not deal breakers.
people who are comfortable double-checking Amazon listings and third-party sellers because commenters noted the "DJI Store" on Amazon may be a marketing page for third parties, and that some third-party sellers are fine if you verify what you're actually buying.
people who want to fly at dusk and still get reliable behavior because one commenter said their Mini 3 "had no issues" when flown at dusk and that it "flys well" with a better camera than Mini 2.
buyers who are okay prioritizing wind performance because a Mini 2 owner said wind resistance is their biggest complaint and it limited their ability to fly 5-6 times, so a new purchase would put wind resistance at the top of the list.
people planning to fly on breezy days or at the beach because a Mini 2 owner said wind resistance is poor-on breezy days it triggers wind alerts and the drone visibly struggles, and they said beach use is essentially a no-go.
buyers who need obstacle sensing because one commenter explicitly said "I need the obstacle sensors," implying this kind of requirement isn't met for them.
buyers who are worried about long-term support and parts availability because community discussion around DJI bans warned that even for existing users, firmware updates, repairs, batteries, and spare parts may become slower, harder to obtain, or unavailable over time.

Sounds like a real PiTA

Some have told me that it defaults to IMU instrument mode in low light if without gps and relies on its cameras to figure out reference points. Which inevitably fails.

Paid $175 used from a pawn shop like 3 years ago. "Fly More" bundle and in flawless condition. I don't have a ton of money invested, so I'm not super upset about the wind thing, but it has stopped me from flying/continuing to fly 5-6 times. If I were to buy another drone, wind resistance would be at the top of my list. Had to share.
the FCC ruling last month basically said the US government is done with certifying any more DJI (foreign) drones. there is an exemption process but DJI is never going to get a pass.
Probably best to focus on what's actually happening, vs. what we think might be happening. Also, the ban (FCC), which is new, isn't the only factor here - CBP's actions have been in play for some time.

I haven't tried either in high winds but the Mini 3 flys well and camera is better than the 2.
I have flown it dusk and had no issues at all.
Overall I would recommend it.
