It's a PVP/PVE extraction shooter set in monster filled post civil war Louisiana. You will play as a hunter sent to kill the local boss, banish it and bring back the proof of completion of the mission. The PVP is against other human hunters with guns competing for the proof of completion. You'll be going through old brick buildings, worn down wood houses, shacks, and barns. Lots of zombies, zombie hounds, bee swarm controlling women, fire monsters walking around. Your equipment is mostly realistic guns and knives but with a little magic adding full heal syringe, necromancer magic to pick up your dead friend from a distance, remote detonation bombs, etc.
I don't think there is a another game quite like it. The setting is very unique, the monsters and bosses are unique and interesting, the binaural sound is maybe the best in any PVP game. The accuracy of the sound lets you use your ears somewhat like you would your eyes. Most games focus on visual information. I never thought about what I can hear until this game.
The gun play is great. One bullet to the head kills so the Time-to-Kill is very low. Some fights swing wildly back and forth. It gives you a chance even in 3 v 1.
The game is hard to learn, you'll need to learn how to handle each monster, your equipment, get familiar with the map, etc. If you'd just like to play a little tourist visit around this world I'd recommend playing the tutorial and then some Bounty-Clash with friends or random team. It's a quick low stakes game mode. People go in expecting to lose money. Then play the main mode Bounty-Hunt, meet the 4 bosses and the Alligator. Uninstall or keep playing.

This month stands out mainly for Sonic Frontiers and Hunt, with Sonic Frontiers making the bundle feel worthwhile on its own and even the weaker picks still landing as solid. Hunt: Showdown 1896 draws the most attention for its unique post Civil War Louisiana setting, tense extraction shooter loop, and exceptional binaural audio that makes stealth and positioning matter. The included Hunt DLC is only cosmetics, with no pay to win angle, but the game is also described as difficult, skill based, and punishing for newcomers. A few notes also flag long matchmaking and steep early progression, making this a stronger fit for players who want a hardcore shooter than for casual starts.
Hunt: Showdown 1896 DLC included in the bundle is limited to skins rather than gameplay power.
Sonic Frontiers can make the whole Humble Choice month feel worthwhile for many buyers.
Hunt: Showdown 1896 offers a unique monster-filled Louisiana setting with binaural audio for positional awareness.
Hunt: Showdown 1896 can be a strong fit for a niche audience that wants a difficult, skill-based PvP shooter.
Hunt: Showdown 1896 progression can feel punishing when new players are matched against skilled opponents.
The Hunt DLC value can be limited because the DLC is cosmetics and may feel pricey without sales.
Hunt: Showdown 1896 matchmaking can take a long time and can place players into high-skill lobbies.
Skipping a month in Humble Choice can be risky for discounted plans because it may cause loss of remaining discounted months.

Some months may have keys for other stores as well, but this month they're all steam keys. You can cancel the subscription at any time.

Hunt is hard, but if you want a PVP focused game without much of a grind....its amazing. Grinding is optional, you will spend your time on a tough learning curve to learn the game. it has its quirks and issues at times, but if you are up for a difficult/hardcore style pvp shooter this thing is special. and the audio is amazing. you can be sitting behind a wall and here people walk around the house and know fairly well where they are at - shoo them through the wall! or wait for them to come through that door and blast them with a shotgun.
go watch some youtubers - psychoghost, rexnor, rachtaz. it can be really tough, but also really thrilling and rewarding.

Remember, in HUNT, just like ARC Raiders, YOU are the content. Your job is to keep dying, so the vets can have fun.
