The only thing heavy duty about it is a metal frame body. Very cheap unit overall, not worth it even at the lower price. There are better machines out there

Thumbs up! Looks like a good deal.

According to Amazon AI: "The price dropped dramatically just yesterday from $404.98 to the current $283.03 - that's over $121 in savings and the lowest price in the 90-day period."

Just wish there were some Amazon reviews….

Any personal recommendations at around this price?
Any of the Singer HD models worth looking at?

Janome mystyle
burnette b35

The singer brand overall is more for the people that may sew every once in a while. Unless you get into quite a bit more money, I would look at janome, burnette, brother or juki.
If you ever are at a yard sale and see an older singer model (from your grandparents time) then buy it. They are usually worth the effort involved in refurbishing them as they were built to last.
I would expect this unit to break down frequently and it is just not worth fixing once that happens (throw away model)

I wouldn't try. I have some nicer machines that I still hesitate to use too heavy of material on. Thin, scrappy soft leather, maybe but belt/bridle material needs a super heavy machine intended for such. And watch marketplace if you're in no rush

I have a Bernina 707 that dates from around '68 (I think) that is a beautiful piece of machinery... the only 'issue' is that it's on 220v and I'm in the states, so I wonder if someone could convert the power over?

Yeah it's probably not for heavy duty thick leather but for hobbyists, it might good. Here are some reviews about its performance with leather.

Made most of my own clothes in the 60's and early 70's on Singer machines. Made my own wedding dress and vail. Traded up to a top of the line Pfaff in 1975. I believe I paid $400. Last things I did was sew velcro on canvas panels for my son's Burning Man dome a decafde ago, and put new binding on a 40 year old electric blanket. If anyone lives in Las Vegas, I'm ready to part with the machine. I also have several yards of wool tartan I bought in Scotland in 1970 and never got around to using.

You could just use a step-up transformer like this one and you're good to go: https://www.amazon.com/Yinleader-...B0F1TCR3S6

I only know what I found on the internet, but it sounds like some can be modified to be 110 and others need the motor replaced to change the voltage. Sewing machine repair shop is your best bet if you know as little as me about such things.

Step-up transformer as suggested by Roundabout should also work.

Where do you get your information from? The reviews look pretty good. What machines do you recommend? It seems like you are an expert on sewing machines based on your comment.

I have a singer heavy duty, and I don't do a lot of sewing, but it's barely strong enough to punch through two or three layers of jean material. Mostly I just repair my work jeans. I don't think I would try to go through leather with it.
