Been out of the game for a while. Is ~$20 per TB considered slick?

No $10 for Seagate and $14 for WD.

With this your paying for looks and "gaming" rgb

Bought this same unit for a family member years ago and it has held up well. The exterior housing is well made. For what it is I think the price is fine.

You're not buying an 8tb seagate drive anywhere for $10/tb

You think an 8TB SSD is going to be under $160 ??? What planet are you on. I want to move there.

I bought this around 5-2022 from a slickdeals GameStop deal for $118.99. it is still on my desk.

but, anyway, it still works and looks neat ontop of my desk

If I could get it for about $118 or less again, I'd buy another to stack them.

( updated )

I removed my comments about it being "slow" because I just ran Crystal Disk Mark on it and the scores are pretty good for an HDD ( these have 7200 rpm drives inside )

SEQ 1M READ 172.79 ( MB/s )
SEQ 1M WRITE 165.85 ( MB/s )

ai says a good score is between 100-200 MB/s

I have it plugged into my USB 3.0 port, I verified it is a usb 3.0 port in my computer owners manual, but this drive is SLOW.i KNOW it is HDD, but it is slow even for HDDbut, anyway, it still works and looks neat ontop of my deskIf I could get it for about $118 or less again, I'd buy another to stack them.
Personally if you think it's that good and you need it, you probably should just get it. Prices are not getting better

FYI, these are garbage. Had one fail inside 13 months. Seagate did recover part of the data under warranty. (3rd party data recovery company) Sending me back a 4TB drive instead of 8TB...then essentially told me to pound sand on the 8TB replacement, saying that I only had 3.7TB of data. Customer service wasn't getting it... and were pretty much useless.

i like how they just slap rgb on the hdd and call it "gaming" hub

yet you can't find whether it's 5400rpm or 7200rpm

my guess is 5400rpm.

SMR as I recall.. My xbox version died after year and a month. 1yr warranty.. Figures..

Over the years there have been problematic drives. The Seagate 3tb drives were awful, and the 8tb models seem to be in that boat. Unless you KNOW that the drive inside is a CMR drive, I would be cautious.

Nobody said this was SSD. 8TB HDD's go for $99 pretty regularly if you look.
