Community Reviews
Bose QuietComfort Ultra earbuds are mainly praised for class leading active noise cancellation, strong sound, and a very comfortable fit, with several refurb purchases arriving in near new condition. They also pair well with phones and computers, and multipoint works in practice. The main cautions are Bose quality control and connection quirks, including left earbud pairing problems, occasional crackling, mono switching, and some charging or warranty surprises. Fit can still take some tweaking, and battery life is only average. A strong noise cancelling option if you can live with Bose's occasional reliability headaches.
Common Questions (5)
Some units are reported to have left-earbud pairing failures, crackling or buzzing, mono-audio glitches, and occasional charging problems. Battery life is also criticized by some as only around 6 hours, while others report their older units still holding about 70% capacity after heavy use.
Yes. The ANC is described as better than Sony XM5 and AirPods Pro 2, with some saying it is dramatically stronger in noisy environments like flights and the gym. The tradeoff is that fit can take some experimenting, and a few users report connection or mono-audio glitches.
They are widely described as very comfortable and secure, with several users saying they stay in better than Sony earbuds and work well for walking or the gym. Fit still varies by ear, so some people need to try different tips or add wings for extra stability.
If Bose support cannot fix a defective unit, replacements may be upgraded to the QuietComfort Ultra 2nd Gen after the old pair is sent back. Warranty and trade-in handling can vary, and some users report being offered refurb Gen 1 replacements in automated systems before escalating to chat.
Yes, they support multipoint. They can stay connected to a phone and computer at the same time, and the Bose app shows the active audio source. On Windows, disabling audio enhancements and the earbud microphone can help prevent unwanted hands-free mode and sound-quality drops.

Both gave me $100 trade in.
I got in an online chat via Bose and told them if they would give me $150 trade in credit versus the $100, I'd buy the new Ultra 2nd Gen earbuds and DEAL!
(My wife uses the 1st gen ones and loves them)
ANC is better (I thought V1 was fantastic)
Call quality is marginally better than V1
There is some "wax guard" on the inner ear tip
Wireless charging
That's about it.
Worth upgrading if you have the Ultra V1? Eh. Reviews tend to say no.
I got them on the original SD Verizon deal over 3 years ago.
Then i got the SD for a refurb pair for I think it was $119 in December 2023 to give as a gift.
They came, the one earbud didn't work at all. Got on the phone with Bose and they weren't able to fix the issue despite resetting, making sure firmware was up-to-date, etc. At this point, Gen 2 had come out and they sent me a brand new pair of those as the replacements. (I think the ANC is the exact same, the Gen 2 added spatial and maybe multi-point?)
I imagine at this point if these didn't work for some reason you'd get the Ultra Gen 2 earbuds as your replacement.
Overall thoughts:
I love these headphones. I can't image the ANC of the Ultra Gen 2 earbuds is that much better (ie worth the extra cost) than these. Sound quality is good. I'm not an audiophile so I can't really comment about highs/lows/etc and all that crap. I use them for work calls and the mic and sound quality is clean and crisp. As with any bluetooth headphones, you do run into random connectivity issues.
If I needed another pair, I'd pick them up. The additional 1 year warranty is nice.
You can't even buy NEW in the Ultra 1st gen anymore (I don't think)
You can buy refurb Ultra Gen 1 like in the deal above. If they don't work and Bose support can't fix them, you'll (most likely) get a brand new pair of QC Ultra 2nd Gen as a replacement (you have to sent the other ones back first ).
You can trade in a pair of QCII earbuds and get a credit that you can use to buy the QC Ultra Gen 2.
You can not use the credit toward a pair of refurb Ultra Gen 1 models
I have a pair of QCII earbuds (these were the prior version to the QC Ultra Gen 1). They offered me $100 as a credit towards purchase of a new Bose product. I got in a chat and asked if they give me $150 credit. They accepted.

Only weird thing I noticed was on the first night, I connected to both my iPhone and my Mac and when I tried to watch a video that was downloaded on my phone (didnt happen for social media clips) it would not play. The fix was to disconnect from my Mac. Kind of annoying but not the worst thing to work around. Apparently there is a setting you can change on Android that fixes this issue but Apple OS's dont seem to have it.
They come with a 1 year warranty.
